Saved another buddy $400 by a $2 bottle of clear nail polish :aigo:

His coil packs were cracked on his 94 supra TT, and the other day the car just wanted to misfire all the damn time, almost not driveable.

So we took the coils out, and I spent a good 30mins with cleaner and a bottle of clear nail polish and filled in all the cracks on them.

Put the car back together, runs like a champ. The idle is dead smooth and runs great under boost.

Where are these cracks? Any pics? Looks like it's something common enough to run into, right? Thanx!

Its a very common JZ engine problem.

Its on the top of each coil pack, mainly around the "feet" where the screw holds them down, and around the word "Japan" on the side.

My friend had cracks in his to where it was as wide as a piece of paper.

yeah, i spent the time and did the same thing with epoxy. one thing i missed the first time is that on 2 or 3 of my coil packs, i have cracks along the bottom shaft of the coil pack, like where the blue boot sits on and connects to the plug. i pulled those off, and i have a crack about 1.5" long and about the size of a sheet of paper. so i gotta go back and nail polish that as well.

I dont think I have ever seen a 1jz coil that wasnt cracked.
my buddy's sc has a 1jz in it with about 80k miles. not one of the coil packs is cracked. maybe because he follows the 6500rpm red line his tach say?
