Exactly the same transmission with the exception of the clutch packs, and frankly I have gone through a few a340e's and I don't see much difference in performance/reliability between the turbo or n/a versions. They're both easy to fry (in stock form) if you are putting down any kind of power (trust me).

If you're over 300 hp or so, you'll need to go to kevlar clutches, shim the accumulators and definitely run an external cooler. If you don't, you will be doing a lot of transmission swapping.

you're going to have to swap out your drive shaft, tachometer, and speedo cables if you want everything to work the same..

stock for stock, you have nothing to worry about, at higher power levels the w58 (NA) is more likely to break, but that's if you're pushing 400hp...

this is assuming you're going 5-speed, if it's another auto tranny, then I have no idea.:D

If you are going Turbo A340E to NA A340E, it's a straight swap. The big difference is the additional clutch plates like Suprabad said....just as long as you realize Toyota put the extra clutch plates in the turbo A340E for a reason ;)

In the future, be more specific in what you ask. That way you won't get all the off tangent answers and might actually get the answer you're looking for.

So if I buy a transmission for a NA car, it will bolt right up to my turbo car with nothing else? the reason I ask is because their are always NA trannies on ebay and not turbo, or do you guys know where I can get a turbo tranny?

Jesse, you're not listening...are you looking at auto or manual trannys?
(the manual trannys are different for turbo vs NA too).

One more time, you need to be more specific in your posts or you're going to start getting ignored.

A turbo A340E would be a better choice...post a WTB in the classifieds. Shipping is going to be killer though (eBay too) ;)

Another thing you have to watch for is ABS. If your car doesn't have ABS and the one you're getting it from does, you'll need to swap the tailshaft/speed sensor from your old tranny to the new one or you'll have some issues.

I'm running a GE tranny on my GTE...for now. It's a direct bolt on, no mods needed...nothing. They are exactly the same externally. I've got a GTE tranny sitting in the garage that will be rebuilt for extra power when the money permits.

i never had any issue's with it.i only used it for 1000-1200 mile's before the 7m got a bhg.i pulled the harness off it,but you should be able to switch them over.a tranny shop could pull it appart and check it out for cheap, to insure it's good to go.i just figured i'd offer it seeing your local, other wise it's going to the scrap yard with a bunch of other stuff.

My stock auto lasted 96K miles before dying. I got a free N/A auto from Carl (thanks!) here on the forums, which supposedly only had 64K miles on it. I killed it in about 3K miles.

I dyno'ed 275 rwhp on the first auto, although it was less than a week later that it died and may be making more power than that. If you can get a turbo automatic you should.
