NA-T ECU, Tuning, fuel injector questions

I recently purchased a 89 supra 7mge. It was turboed two owners ago, and I'd like to pick up where he left off. I tend to find that I'm running rich (8-16), and that at high acceleration (4500+ rpm) it loses a lot of power, and sounds like it's drowning in gas. Sometimes after quick acceleration the engine dies. I'm not sure the specifics of the setup, but I know that he put 550cc injectors on it.

Today I went looking for the ECU setup, thinking that might be an issue and I found this: IMG_0521[1].jpgIMG_0519[1].jpgIMG_0523[1].jpg

I tried looking up details about that ECU, but didn't know what to search so I failed miserably. Since my car is a 89, and this is from a 92, and the label was printed in 2007 (during the period that two owners ago would of had it), I believe that it is a 7mgte. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm wondering what my options are (assuming that running rich is the problem here.) AEM FIC and a tune would run me about $1000, money that I don't have right now and could put towards coilovers. Could I go to 440cc injectors (stock 7mgte) to fix the issue? (not as great as a proper tune, I know.) At least then the basemap would be semi-accurate.

Well the 92 ecu should work on an 89 since the 89 and up use the grey connectors. And the ecu is for a 7mgt which is the motor you have. so you should be fine. Now, what concerns me is you said you have 550cc injectors but didnt mention a lex afm to allow 25% more air to make up for the added fuel which would explain why you're running rich? Do yu have a lexus afm housing?

Edit: Does that ecu say 7mgt or 7mge on it? I can't see the picture big enough on my phone.

Autocraft Microsystems is a company in Florida. ECU is probably a re-badged Techtom unit. Open the lid and show us what's inside. I doubt it is the cause of your problems though.

The ECU doesn't say if it's 7mgt or 7mge, just "1992 Toyota Supra, 3.0L, MT, FED, P/N:number" I do not believe I have the lex afm, but I will research how to check and report back tomorrow.

How will showing a circuit board help?

Ya know, all this stuff is harder than a power steering leak...

I managed to fix the power steering, and learn a lot about that system doing it. I got into this in hopes of learning a lot, and I already am! From what I can tell now (after some replies and a bit of research) I don't need a piggy back or stand alone (yet), just some modifications. Lexus AFM to start, going junkyard hunting tomorrow. Also learn/dial in AFPR (realizing now that the car has one, wasn't quite sure what it was until now.)

If my thinking is correct, and this will get my car back on track then I should still have enough money for a suspension upgrade. Yay!

Don't worry guys, I pick stuff up fast, want to learn and know how to research after I know what I'm searching for. I'm going to get this!

1. It does say "7MGT" -- in large friendly yellow letters. Right next tot he larger letters that say "M/T" for manual transmission.

2. So that we can see if it's an OEM ECU or a Techtom one. If it's Techtom, then there are actually a number of things that can be done, and a number of things that should NOT be done, at least not without further data.

As far as tuning, not much to do without knowing for certain what's in the ECU box, unless you're going to remove it and go standalone.

Lots and lots to learn to tune a car. First off you need to figure out what's going on with what you've got before you go changing things.

Alright thank you very much! I understand now. I'll get the thing open today and get back to the thread.

EDIT: I'm an idiot for not seeing the 7MGT.
