NA-T block - No Oil Squirters..Problem?

My son and I are building a turbo engine using an NA block. I had to drill/tap out the two bosses for the knock sensors, the turbo oil feed and the 3/4" hold for the turbo drain back into the block. I am pretty sure that there won't be a problem NOT installing the oil squirters, correct. I don't want to have to drill out anymore than I have to and this block doesn't have the holes for them. I know a lot of people convert their engines from NA-T so I was wondering what consequence this may have. Any input is appreciated.
Regards,
Chris

no, there is not to much need for the squirters. There are some that say that you need them and other that say that you dont. I have personally turbo charged a number of different engines that didn't have them and I have never had a problem as long as you have a very good tune on the motor. In my personal experiance, the only time that I have seen them to be bennifical is in engine that are you for sustained heavy loads or when an engine spend most of its life under heavy power loads like a road race car.

Yep. Or a heavy duty diesel powerplant.

I think Toyota did it to help with the fact that they did not use forged pistons.

Squirters are just an extra measure of protection for the stock pistons. (And for the forged puppies I have in there now.)

Without them, your stock rods have squirter holes that spray the bores down, and there is quite a bit of oil spray being flipped and thrown around inside of an engine.

I belive the squirters are there for a reason, and that was to keep the stock pistons in good conditon heat wise for the life of the motor. With forged stuff, and some coatings if you have them, the need is minimized. (Best of both worlds would be both obviously, but the trade off is your NA block has better oil pressure as there is less "loss" of pressure via the 6 controlled leaks the squirters provide.)

Make sure you use a "turbo" oil pump in you NA block. It has taller gears, and will provide your engine with more oil volume. (That should increase the pressure you see at the guage, and keep your bearings well supplied with oil throughout the life of the engine.)

Good luck.

im running a T61 on GE block, no squirters, 1 KS, Oil return tapped into oil pan. I would tapped the block for oil return but I dident know if it was a good idea. Invest in a knock meter guage, they are cheap and will let u know how hard you can push it.
