OK. So it has started. I purchased my 87 NA supra for $2000 about 6 months ago. I've patiently waited to find a decent and compatible donor to begin my GTE swap, and alas, my search is over. This weekend get the donor, and over the weekend I'll strip it. By monday I'll have pics up, both of the donor and the transplantee. lol. I would snap a few of my NA now, but I've had the entire dash pulled out for about a week, trying to scrape time to finish my heater core install.

Well, that's about it. Wish me luck! :)

Ok, so I've finally made enough progress to warrant a new post so this is whats new. The donor car made it here Saturday morning, just as I was finishing up my heater core job. I was actually impressed at the condition of the car, unlike the norm it actually looked better in person than it did in the pics. The car itself is an 87 Turbo, Targa. It is actually the exact same color as my Supra (burgandy) with the exact same interior... so needless to say I went to pullin misc parts off of the car to replace the little detailed parts that my car was lacking...

But anyway back to the car. I didn't know before hand, but this was a one owner car, and the guy I bought it from was about 65 years old, so I'm hoping that he was past his rowdy days and didn't run the motor and associated parts into the ground. It has all its original parts, even came with the original owner's manual!! :icon_surp

Monday I took off work... Lord knows I hate that place, LOL, and pulled the motor from the donor. Everything looks to be in great condition, aside from a couple of rotted hoses and buildup from leaking valve cover gaskets. The guy I brought the car from said that he was getting rid of it because I was leaking antifreeze from behind the block and a local shop told him it would be $800 to fix :aigo: because they had to pull the motor. This thing actually had a hole in every single hose that runs behind the motor.

Anyway, I finished pulling the rest of the accessories that I needed today, so for the next couple of months, I'm going to take my time and gather the things I need to complete the first phase of this project... gaskets, seals, valve job, ect.

I know I don't have any pics up yet, but I will get some up tonight... gotta get my digital camera back from the wifey.

It sounds like you need to just fix up the donor car. If it's a nice as you say, why strip it to make your n/a an turbo?

Well, the car is in pretty good condition but the major reason I'm not going to fix up the donor is because it has a lost title. The previous owner had intended to sign the car over to his wife while he went away on business, so that if they decided to sell it, she could without him being there. Well, he signed the title in the wrong line - this was about 9 years ago. After the car sat for so long, and I guess as they got older, they just forgot about it... and I don't want to go through the hassle trying to get them to apply for a lost title, having to get it signed... ect, ect...

Plus... I'm a hands on type of guy, and my cars interior and exterior is in a little better shape.

And hell, I've already pulled the motor!! LOL :biglaugh:

Oh yeah, and after sitting so long, it has a shot fuel pump...

Man you really need some pictures up, I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Yeah you're right, so here we go. I think it should be easy to tell which car is the donor and which is mine, but mine has the sunroof and is shinier... the donor has the targa and is a little faded...

OK, question... apparently my photos are too big...

How the hell do you make them smaller so that you can upload them?!?

I cropped that ugly one, but the other ones are still too big, even after I crop them!!

Thanks for the help,

- Drew

Drew I need to call you or get you to call me this week. I am still interested in the donor shell when you are finished with it.

Ok. Well I am done with it. Let me know ASAP if you want it or not, both front fenders are bent, passenger side tail light cover is gone, and antenna is missing... but other than that, the rest is there... targa, interior, ect... I need to get rid of it asap. Give me ring.

HAHA. Actually there is. I was debating whether or not to tear the motor completely down or not... keep in mind that I never ran the GTE that I bought. (The fuel pump was shot when I got the car and would only turn over on starter fluid.) I did decide to go ahead and tear it completley down to see what I was working with.

I finally found the time to get it on my stand and to pulling it apart. I got it down to just the block, crank, rods, and pistons and I must say that I was EXTREMELY impressed with what I found. There was minimal gunk in the oil pan, none on the pickup screen. (when I say minimal, I mean a very little bit on the bottom lining on the pan, thats it.) The cams look excellent. No scoring or marks at all. It looks brand new. The crank and rods are beautiful as well. The hatch marks in the cylinders are still very visible, and the is just a small amount of carbon buildup on the head of a couple of pistons.

I just got my main, rod, and trust bearings in the mail the other day. Now I'm just waiting on my ARP Head Studs and my ARP Rod Cap bolts. I've got a couple of pictures that I took while tearing the motor down, but the camera in my battery was dead and I couldn't get anymore. I get some more of up of the torn down motor asap.

Thanks for looking,

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Are you Bob's coworker? I really need to get with him so you all can get this damn shell. Sad thing is, I was at the house that entire day and was so into the motor I completely forgot about it. :3d_frown:

I may just push it to the curb and let yall come get it whenever you can make it over...

I don't work with Bob, He is one of my friends. I unfortunatly work for Honda on Mendenhall, AKA Hell.:sarcasm:
He told me about the shell, and he wants it. I'm just glad to see yet another supra owner in the area. You look like you are in Lakeland/Arlington from the photos.
