N/a Mk3 vs N/a Mk2

Who would win? The N/a Mk3 or the Mk2 supra? i kno that the 7mge makes more hp and tourque then the 5mge but a mk3 weighs more then the Mk2? So does the 7mge make enough power 2 overcome the added weight? I need 2 know. i have a stock 87 5spd n/a and im racing a stock mk2 5spd for a little bit of money. Also how would a n/a mk3 do against a base automatic rsx?

Not to say this may not be correct or possible but it seems to me it would have been natural to introduce a turbo model eventually regardless of the cars weight.

ok i went to a webite http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html stated that 1984 Toyota Supra 8.7 until 60 and 16.8 1/4 mile tymes while the 1988 Toyota Supra 7.9 16.0. That was the n/a model so idk. has anyone raced the mk2 first hand exsperience? the website also stated that the 1986 Toyota Supra did 7.0 15.4. now question is was that the mk2 or the mk3. the tymes are closer to the 88 tho there just.9 faster then the 88 rather then 1.2 seconds faster then the 84. so was it an early 86.5 mk3?

It was in quite a few of the car mags back in '87. The Mk3 was originally getting pretty ugly reviews due to the fact that it was slower than the model it replaced. I don't have the car mags any more, of course, if I kept all the mags I've bought over the years I'd need a house just for them!

When Toyota bolted a turbo on the next year, the reviewers changed their tune.

I don't know how credible car magazines are about certain things though. They say alot of things that end up being false. Even cars with already light weight models, like the RX-7, released a turbo model.

It's a matter of what you do with it. I've raced MKII's in two ways... Drag and Touge.

Drag, I won. (both cars had intake/exhaust packages only) Touge, it was close, but I lost. The lighter weight of the MKII makes it more nimble in the twisties. So, it's up to you.:dunno:

I personally can't count the number of n/a mk3's I'm taken with my mk2. When I did all the mk2 had was an aftermarket cat and catback. I'm not drag race wiz and I have never lost a race to a MK3 n/a. At our annual meet last year a club members echo hatchback beat an n/a mk3..

Agreed-I first started the touge in my 85, it was nice cause even when the tires were screaming i still felt i had control, really fun car to throw around the corners. till it got impounded...the 88 i have now on the other hand is heavier (about 600lbs. :3d_frown: ) for that fact its a bit more scary on the turns, to carry speed through a corner on an uphill run is harder cause you have to know where the car is going to end up after the apex, if you miss judge it, either kiss the wall or spin out (i've done both)...and i also like the gearing on the 85 better

P.s. this is also the same car i paid $500 for (120000miles on it), then a week later i drove from Portland OR. to Ontario CA. 1000+miles NO PROBLEMS, for that I LOVE TOYOTA

I had an 83 (5gme, 5 spd., 3.73 gears) before my 86.5 (7mge, 5 spd., 4.30 lsd). My mkiii is noticeably faster both on the strip and the highway. Both were in excellent running condition, but the 83 died of cancer(spent most of its life in NJ).

oh i can relate to you on your mk2 dieing from cancer. that is why i started this thread is too see whether or not i should take my engine and trans and put it into a mk2 shell that i found or by this n/a mk3 with a blown motor

but the 7mgte was already made but just not ready before the 86.5s were even released. they didnt create the turbo system because the nas were too slow, it jsut wasnt ready.
