trying to get jdm motor running. went thru timing and now I'm trying to fire it. it pulses the revs (regular and then speads up like it want's to fire, then slows down again) and then all of the sudden I got a small white poof from the intake side of the engine? is that good or bad? also I'm thinking the gas in it's bad so I'm trying to get fresh stuff in there so if anyone knows the best way to quickly get new gas (with a bit of berryman) into the engine please let me know.

the TPS *shouldnt* play any roll in starting the car. you can still start the car with it unplugged, you'll just idle at 1k rpm or so.

That could be a timing issue. Take out the CPS and set the notches to match, then set the #1 cylinder to TDC and put the CPS back in, that'll make the timing correct. To a point, you will later need to time it with the timing light of course.

Also note however, me and my friend were messing around with a corrolla and ran it off the throttle body in his driveway. Thing ran fine, whatever. The interesting thing is that if we kept "trying" to start it but never let is start, eventually a poof of white smoke would come out the throttle body. Engine had no problems we were aware of. So... perhaps that is a normal occurence, of course with a very good reason to explain why it happens.

Also, make sure #1 is on the compression stroke if you need to reset the CPS. You can verify that by looking through the oil fill hole. You'll see the cam lobe pointing up and toward the exhaust side of the engine.

timings all been checked and is straight. I found a broken ground (one of the ones that bolts to the IM) and rogue plug on the intake side. I can't seem to find where the plug goes, I'll have pictures tommorow.
