I have eibachs with tokicos.........anyways the front ones went in no problem.......I am having the worst luck with the rear ones though. When I try to tighten the center bolt down to the specified torque (23 pounds if I remember correctly) the shaft just turns with it. I posted this same problem a while back but the solution i tried did not work well. The solution was to replace my rear upper strut mounts........i got some brand new ones from toyota. I put them on, then a couple of weeks later i got my bump stop from toyota so took the same strut off and the damn strut mount was stripped out inside. When i got it, the inside of the mount was D shaped, when I took it off the inside of the mount was a circle. I have heard people say not to use an impact and torque it down with a wrench instead, but I am at the point now where i really just want this shit over with. Any suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Slip a pair of vice grips very carefully onto the top of the strut shaft, the very top past the end of the smooth shiny part of the rod, in between the spring. Be very careful not to touch the smooth and shiny part of the strut. Then tighten the top bolt as normal. You'll have to do this with the spring/strut off the car of course.

Black87turbo, did you buy the expensive rear bump stops for the 86-90 models (48341-14030) or the ones that cost half as much for the 91-92 model year (48341-14040)?

I am so tempted to order the later model cheaper ones but have no idea if they will fit. Both the upper mount and shock changed for the 91-92 models so most likely they won't fit on the earlier cars.

I come from a land down under
3P: I lost a Koni when I had a stock Bump rubber split letting it bottom out and break the piston on the end of the shaft!

Since then I've been a touch paranoid about good bump stops!

I had the same problem and just got new bump stops the old ones were stripped out from someone overtightening them and its hard to know about it until you go to replace them.

Just be careful so you dont ruin your new struts.

IJ; They are both Genuine Toyota bump stops, but for some reason the 86-90 ones cost $35 each and the 91-92's cost $17??? Sometime's I think Toyota's pricing is completely random!

LOL. I think the most blatant nonsensical pricing is for the parking brake shoes. The left rear is $18.35 and the right rear is $20.13. The shoes are identical, just mirror images of each other! :aigo:

i work in the parts department for toyota...... I bought the ones that fit 86-90 cars and i ended up paying around 50$ for both of them with my discount..... i think you are probably right about the latter ones not fitting the earlier models though...
