OK, my rep power went from 4 to 42 in a matter of 2 days. How did that happen? If someone gives me a good rep, won't I be notified of it? I'm confused still on the whole Rep Power thing.
My Rep Power Just Went Way Up And I Don't Know How

Click on your User CP on the top left hand corner of the forums, it should tell you who's given you positive, or negative Rep and the date. If someone with 1000 rep power gives you a positive rep for a post, it will go up quite a bit, like 40 points (just for example)..
