Ok so my Mk3's been in the shop getting its engine rebuilt after i spun a rod bearing. 7MGTE.Forged pistons, heat treated crank, adjustable cam gears , trd cams, honed and bored to 3.2L ,12 injectors(only running 6) , lsd diff, iwas one legging it previously :( ,new fuel tank and new brakes all round. Probably be done this weekend, ive been waiting forever to hit the road again....the one thing i couldnt get outta my mind though is those damn saw blades. Damn theyre ugly.So eventually after 4 months of searching I got my hands on some Racing Hart rims , exactly what i wanted! Whaddya think?

You have the caps? Personally i don't like it, i prefer 5 spoke. But its not the rims we have to judge. Its the way they look ON the car. So post pics when you have them installed :)

Well if you did find TRD cams, congratulations !
As they are rare as hell........

As far as the 3.2L, I say :bsflag:
I think your shop is feeding you BS.......
A 2mm over bore (.080") will only bring a 7M out to 3.1L, and that only leaves 5mm between the cylinders.
If the shop did find 87mm pistons somewhere, that would only leave 3mm between the bores, and the engine would probably split down the middle the first time it seen boost.

Heat treated crank ?
As they say on Monday Night Football.......
Come on man !

But I like the wheels.....

ct26 Smoker: i think that you are right , it may be closer to 3.1L , it wasnt my choice though , as i was running oil so low , the pistons did a number on the cylinder wall so I had to get it bored and resleeved(this was before I got educated on proper 7M maintenance ).the trd cams were not purchased by me , but my mechanic for his 7m who is an mk3 fanatic as well.

mytmk3 : These are 18's.thanks for the tyre reference.

DJT: Yes ofcourse I have the centre caps...sorry this pic was takin in a rush. You are completely right , i prefer the look of these rims than any others ive seen and for the price i couldnt say no but yes it all depends how they look on the car...

airhead04: That was the only thing I was worried about , the tyre is thinner then even the stock tyres on an mk3(but they are pretty fat stock). However I picked up these rims for $450 for all 4 with 2 tyres with 90% tread.....they where the correct fitment , the exact style i wanted,I simply couldnt pass up the oppurtunity.Plus ive dropped 10k into this rebuild(which i know isnt alot for your folk...but its alot for me,I dont have the funds to buy brand new rims with perfect offset).Would spacers help(sorry noob question)

Lastly what do you guys think of Racing Hart rims and what are they exactly? Are they related to Lowenhart or any other Hart rims , and how do Hart rims differ from normal ones?

If it in fact has been sleeved it's junk as far as a performance build is concerned.... :nono:

As for the wheels nah don't like 6 spokes..

+1 on the sleeves.
They are fine on a 2000 rpm tractor engine, but that's about it.
Still think your getting sold a bill of goods.

But I like 6 spoke wheels.
Something other than the mustang/vette/Mk4 look.

Don't forget to tell them to add vtec also. Sleeving it will save you for when vtec kicks in. Lol

In all honesty the only six spoke rims id put on a mk3 are volk te37s.

Correct me if im wrong but all the GM LS motors are sleeved and they seem to hold up fine, i have no idea about sleeving a 7m but it doesnt sound like the best idea.

Aluminum motors need sleeves, and they are designed to have them. Neither of which apply to the 7m.

Could qualify that with some don't ;)

OP: The issue with a 7M and sleeves is they're a siamese bore engine meaning 1>6 are all interconnected, the bore spacing is tight so there's not a lot connecting each hole, when you sleeve an engine you overbore it by a large amount then slide a thick wall sleeve into each hole and bore it to stock size (or if going for CI gains you use a huge sleeve to take a bigger piston)

Where this all turns to shit with a 7M is once bored for the sleeves the block is weakened to the point of failure even at stock outputs, people would be AMAZED just how much a cast iron block moves and wiggles under power.

Hey guys , after taking what you said into consideration i confirmed with my mechanic about the sleeves - it went like this - he was supposed to bore it out and resleeve it but the guy who does the boring and honing didnt hone it to the forged piston size , so when my engine got back the damn pistons didnt fit...so it has to be bored out again, now that it has to be bored out again for the piston size...there is no need to use the sleeves..also they will only be shaving a fraction of that should not affect the stability or the power potential of the motor.

i appreciate you guys opinions of the rims, even though most of you hate it and are more concerned with the sleeves.Anyway what matters most is that Im happy with it , i love the 6 spoke , i love the colour and design, the only thing i would change is the offset but for $450 to replace those terrible sawblades,il stick with it in the mean time.Cant wait to see how it looks on my car.

Oh brother,
Why do I have visions of another failed 7M ?
You really need to find someone else to do your engine work.

oldsking: Ricey????What? I feel they are the furthest thing from rice , they are grey japanese rims , not some massive "bling bling look at me " 20inch chrome that adds 20000kg to the unsprung weight.these are surprisingly light as well.i guess we're all entitled to our opinion.

ct26smoker: I had visions of a failed 7m as well initially but once i saw my mechanics previous builds my fears dissipated, the guy thats doing the actual building is very very good, he has workd on alot of 7m's in his time , and his currently transplanting a 1.5 jz into his mk3.my car has been sitting in the workshop for the past 4 months while i got the funds together and i discovered the various problems that my car has , from broken digi dash , to cracked fuel tank to brakes that lock up for no reason. The machine shop that he sent to do the boring sized it according to my normal pistons, not my forgies (the forgies are slightly bigger). Suffice it to say I was pissed of when I found out , the entire engine had to be dismantled again and sent to another (better and more competent) guy for boring and honing. My mechanic is taking his time with this build and using all of his mk3 experience so hopefully she will be purring again and ready to see the road for the first time in a long time.
