If you dont have a big desk I wouldnt go with 2 24" Monitors.

We use 2 24" Widescreens at work (Could actually use a 3rd) and even with our big desks I find myself having to move my head side to side to use everything I need.

I'd recommend 2 19" or 2 20"

Go all out? Nothing about that system is "all out" to begin with.

Not that its a bad system, just saying...

nah, not really..its just for programming and slight gaming.. if i went "all out" it would be with a I7 with the 1366 socket, but the I5 with the 1156 will be more then good. shit, i wouldnt spend the $3500 on a pc, just do a nice swap.

Agreed, bang for the buck is always best a step down from the top performers. The only argument for buying really top end hardware and spending a few thousand bucks is if your going to hang on to it for several years. I've been sitting on this same 8800GTX OC2 since practically the day they came out at $550 or $600. LOL

I'm at 2.5 years on my current system, only added 2 GB of ram and upgraded the Processor.

Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Mobo
AMD Phenom X3 2.3GHz
EVGA 8600 GT
4GB of DDR2-800
2x250 GB Internals, 1TB External
Ultra X2 PSU

Works great for gaming and for classwork (running a lot of VMs to simulate a multi-workstation environment)

Will easily last me another 2.5 years if I wanted.

I don't do a ton of gaming as I only really like a few of the titles that come out nowadays. Just finished single player NFS:Shift, and I can't wait for Modern Warfare 2 to come out but I'm not big on MMOs like a lot of "gamers" are. Except for Starcraft 2 I don't see much in the way of really great PC games on the horizon either.

That being said I don't own a game console and do all my gaming on a Windows 7 box that has no other purpose than to be a game machine... and a really big HDD for media storage.

BTW, unlike back when I built my 1st P4 gaming computer, the only reason I see to buy AMD now is out of pity for the company. Since the Core 2 Duo I don't think AMD's chips have been able to hold a candle to Intel's.

AMD is better for gaming. Intel is better at everything else.

You name it, I have played it at least once. Crysis, BioShock, CoD4, CS:S

Is that what you tell yourself to justify not buying Intel? There is no way in hell a Phenom II X4 965 is better for ANYTHING than any Core i7 chip is. i7's are much more expensive, and much higher performance - you are utterly clueless if you think otherwise.

Back in the P4 days you may have been correct, but they are not even comparable now. AMD's highest end chip is targeted at a Core 2 Quad level performance and priced for it.

He should have said AMD Was better bang for the buck, but you are correct. AMD has been crushed since the Core2Duos where dropped on the market.

Oh please do a price comparison.

Wait, I'll do it for you.

X4 965: $215
i7-920: $290

To some people, Thats a huge money difference. And You need to not be such an ass in your posts, There is a way to debate, then there is a way to argue.

Not really sure what you're after there. I said they were "much more expensive and much higher performance"... you angrily agree? LOL

Like a CPU knows what you're actually running

AMD USED to be best bang for the buck, but yep, sonce the C2D came out they're losing the game. AMD used to run cooler than the P4's, now it's the other way around.

Brand loyalty is shit for the most part, as the tech leapfrogs constantly and anyone with half a brain will buy the best bang for the buck.

I'm an nVidia fan because their drivers are much better than ATi's (yes i've owned both) and they have a few features I really like that ATi has yet to copy. I also like running Crucial or Corsair RAM since they're tested and generally get better reviews.

In the CPU game, it's alright to be a fanboi, but you have to face facts sometimes.

Though I occasionally swapped over to an Intel system/chip, I was an AMD fan for a LONG time. From the time I had a 386DX40 in 1995 until just a few years ago, I remained faithful to them. After the Core2 came out, with no true answer from AMD, there was no denying that Intel had pulled far ahead in the race.

This isn't the day of the Athlon anymore. Show me an AMD chip that spanks Intel AND costs equivalent/less [like AMD used to] and I may switch camps again, but for me, this next decade is looking like it is going to belong to Intel.

In accordance with tradition, I HOPE AMD comes out with something that makes me need to pull my foot from my mouth, but until that time comes, I'm pretty happy with my Q9550.

I'm not a FanBoy, I have built many computers, both AMD and Intel based. And in the proccess of building an Intel server now.

In my experience, I've had better luck with AMD for gaming machines, and Intel for everything else.

I am an Nvidia Fanboy though :p
