My dad and I had an 88T that idled PERFECT at 650. without a seconds thought the rpms would drop down and sit at 650 on the nose.

My 89 will NOT idle like that and iv'e tried everything. I just put in a new throttle body with tps and linkage... i STILL idle at 1000 RPMS

Fresh cleaned injectors from RC Eng, new walbro, and stuff! What else should I check to try and get my idle to be where its supposed to be?!

did you check your isc yet? when you turn your car off can you hear the isc clicking? check for vac leaks?

ISC is working. I've replaced that 3 times :) No Vaccum leaks

my 89 is idling at 650 and i dont know what i did!!! lol The idle is sweet but i still keep stalling it out at intersections if i come to "sudden stops". Its getting kind of annoying.

Pull off the ISC hose and place your thumb across the ISC port so that the air is completely choked off. Does it stall?

Forgot to try that, but I have some very exciting news!!!

I got really frusterated and grabbed the bar that goes from the linkage to the tb itself. I pulled really hard to the LEFT which closes the tb and for a second I thought the engine died. Everything went way quiet. I went and looked at the tach... low and behold I was around 600. I looked at the e01 and I was right at 650. PERFECT!

Now, whenever I drive and let off it'll just stop at 1000, 1500, or vary between thsoe two... EXCEPT on my way home. It dropped down to ~500 and my vacuum went to about -10 then went way upto 1500. it did that every time i put the clutch in.

when I parked in the garage it was around 1200 and I did the thing with the bar again... it went to 650 and loved it. everything was quiet, smooth, just the way it should be...

so what's causing this wierd stuff to happen? I'm so excited I might actually get the car to idle like the old 88 used too... I've had my 89 for about three years, its never idled correctly from the time it was na to now...

I have the same problem don't worry.

Except sometimes mine does idle nice. MOst of the time not though.
I've narrowed it dowqn for now to a vacuum leak somewhere. I can't think of what else it might be.

Have you done anything with your EGR? Cleaned? Blocked off?
Sometimes the seal on there may not be the best, as in my case, and cause a slow vac. leak.

hey J, i had a similar problem but my car would idle really low, like under 500. come to find out that heater hose(on back of head) was leaking. felt like i was down a cyl. i totally capped off that line from the heater core. toyota oem coolant caps. now runs perfect>don't know how it could've helped but it did. your car not a DD, maybe it could work, these cars do idle funny to cooling system problems.

Justin - Check your accelerator linkage on top of the motor. Make sure it's not binding somehow, not allowing it to fully return to closed. Maybe adjust the length of the rod. That's what it sounds like when you manually pull the rod to closed position.

xXxICExXx - I would check the dashpot like RacerXJ220 suggested. This is what I had to do - [post]196725[/post]

hey bud I am having a similar problem!!!!!!!! I dont mean to jack the thread but i have a question as well. I just recently replaced the battery and it idled fine at first (about 650 rpms) and all of a sudden a few days later the idle began to decrease almost to the point where the car turns off if I have my lights on and some other electronics. I think it is my alternator but i am not sure because when i checked the voltage on my battery with my lights on that bitch was draining power like hell. A short somewhere maybe? or would the alternator drain the power from the battery if it does not have enough amp to keep the car at idle on its own......... help is always appreciated!!!!

I wish i could help with your problem man.....i just dont know enough about this to be of any use!!!!! sorry bud. :icon_conf
