so this is the latest culprit for my latest coolant leak.
i was commin home from school and the end cracked on me and pissed coolant everywhere...
the other side is broken cuz of when i was taking off the bottom hose from it. i need to get a new heater control valve to fix it by next friday... how long would it take to ship from one of you guys here? fucking toyota wants to charge me 187 for the fucking thing. thats rediculous. that really pissed me off..i have a situation pending where im supposed to get it from someone in the area, but i dont know if that'll work out..

yes you can bypass it just make sure you plug the vac line heading to it. if you do bypass it then it'll act just like a normal car in that you will always have coolant flowing through your heater core. I bypassed mine because I didn't feel like paying for a new vsv.

there is a sensor that opens a vac valve hooked to the assembly that recieves a signal when the thermostat inside the car calls for heat. then the vavle opens and allows warm engine coolant to flow through the heater core to provied heat in the interior. the vac line would be the little black plastic tube that runs along the firewall accrossed the car.

If you got an old accordian hose laying around, take one of the small metal hose fittings out of it and use it as a splice for between the hoses. Just clamp both ends tight. You do know this will give you full time heat.

i just got some 5/8" heater hose from the autoparts store and got rid of all that. i didn't want an extra joint that could possibly leak.

In all actuality, it's always open.
The only time the VSV triggers it to move, is when the AC is on.
It closes the valve, stopping the flow of hot coolant through the heater core so you don't reheat the cooled air coming from the evap core.

Yeah...that would be better. I was just thinking of a temporary fix until he could get a new HCV.
