The stupid dumbasses on our city council have decided that this is the last year that they will allow the lease for our local track "Race City Speedway".

Ever friday night approx 100-200 street racers go there to legally let lose on a supervised and fairly decent track.

The police are trying to prevent the closing of the track because even they can see that there is without a doubt going to be a large a very real deadly street racing problem without the track.

Our brilliant city council has decided that we need a drainage ditch more than we need a track and are not offering the track any new possibilities for relocation either. Citing that street racing is illegal and people should not be doing it regardless of there being no track to do so legally on.

Are they living on the fucking moon or what? Even people who do not race or go to the track should be signing the petition to keep in open in some form simply because it's a no brainer for keeping the streets safe.

This is my rant....anyways, anyone in the alberta region should be signing this petition please.

it's got 12,000ish signatures so far.

Your gov't is nuts. Firebird Int. has open races every Fri and Sat except when scheduled events come through, like NHRA Nationals or the Fun Ford Weekend. Best thing for keeping racers legit. Also, it provides a place for racing talent scouts to go to find new blood. Think about what would happen if one of you street racers got picked up by an F1 team and became the next rookie of the year. Talk about fame.

I don't plan on street racing, I guess I just know human nature and know for sure that there will be a whole lota kids ripping around likely getting killed and taking a few innocents here and there with them, why because the world is full of idiots. My city council included.

It's going to be a huge mess here in my city next year and you can bet my city council is going to be all like......."BooooooHoooooo, street racing must be stopped, why is it so bad suddenly, they should just not do it!"

You're missing the bigger picture.

Once they've gotten this, they'll be able to get funding for more police cars, more raids to crack down on street racing, more radar guns and more ticket revenue. This will pave the way for more draconian laws, and the eventual seizure of anything that even looks like it would be fun to street race in.

Something's got to pay for that drainage....

Your government is learning from our government all too well.

Fuck it, I signed it...and I don't live in Canada. I know all too well what it's like to have a local(ish) track close down. Fuckin' Carlsbad shut down Carlsbad Raceway and filled it in...built a fucking industrial park over it. Fuck that noise! And then they wondered why San Diego street racing went up...HA!

The truely stunning part for me is how truely STUNNED our city council must be considering even the cops here are telling them to keep it open, that shutting it down is gonna be a bad idea. I don't give a shit about the drainage ditch so much as I do that they are not offering or even permitting an alternative venue location becuase such facilities are generally "Too NOISEY" is their primary concern.

I guess we'll see what they think of the "Noise" of racers ripping around everywhere crashing into thing sthey might care about.

But thats government for ya, as soon as you become an elected official your brain completely flushes I think.

No bigger irony than "Goverment Intelligence" cept for perhaps "Military Intelligence"

Dude you really really really need drainage man...we don't wanna lose you with all that Ice cap melting up there and then all that water pooling in Calgary. Your city council has it right, you need to be draining water.

Signed petition BTW, even if I don't live in Calgary

Wait.. street racing is crime?! What! But I've seen 10x more poorly setup live axle overpowered 60-70-80s muscle cars hit the wall on the track then organized racing on the street...

Signed.
