My car gets hot on the highway. And not in a good way

I just did the head and gasket.

new thermostat

burped the engine

It runs fine at idle, but 15 minutes into my drive on the highway.

It get hot. REAL HOT.

Like as if I already blew the Head Gasket.

Any ideas?

like your engine temp guage is hot or you can feel it in the cabin hot. i know when i hit highway for long periods i feel the heat soak in the foot pedals and dash sometimes.

check for co2 in radiator and make sure your using 50/50 mix of water and red coolant

Do you have an electric fan setup or are you using the factory fan clutch? My car would overheat at highway speeds with the electric fans turned on. Anthing else about your cooling system that we need to know? HTH...

Someone else had a similar problem.
He solved it with a new radiator cap.
You might try that, or try another water pump. Although I've never heard of someone

fixing that problem with a new water pump. But the water pump can cause cavitation, which heats up the coolant. So the faster the water pump runs, the more heat it generates.

Does it get hot in stop and go traffic or just on the Hwy?

If only on the hwy, check and or replace the lower hose. If the hose is old and weak, it will suck closed, causing a restriction.

If it gets hot only while driving around town~ clogged radiator, bad fan clutch, or bad cap, or partially stuck thermosthat.

I changed the whole radiator. Solved a lot of the problem. still getting some temp rise. My fan clutch is a little weak. So I'll opt for the Electric fan. Any one got one. Or know of any other cars electric fan that might mount up to mine? Plus, I'm getting a little steam from where the turbo is. Is it possible that the gasket between the turbo elbow and the downpipe is no good?

It's probobly from the coolant hose that comes from the thermostat housing area to the turbo. Roughly an 8" long 1/4" id rubber hose that goes from the thermostat housing to the turbo.

yeah, definately check the coolant hose to the turbo. as far as the fans. go with the flex lite if you can drop the money. the 89 and up AC fans and an autozone 12 incher work pretty well too. good luck.

They are talking about the one that i was using that day to help bleed your cooling system. The one on top of the thermostat housing going to the turbo.

Yea, it's that. I drove from Long Island and back with out spooling the turbo and the car was fine temperature wise.

Is it only that one hose on top, or is one underneath that I'm not seeing?

Its on top. The one that looks like a garden hose or some sort that you used on it.

I would replace that one if i was you. Stop being cheap Denise :stickpoke .
