Well this is how my story starts I bought this 87 mr2 from a co-worker for 150 bucks it was running on 2 cylinders because he got water in the spark plug valley so he thought it had a blow motor. it has 130,000 miles so I really couldn't complain , but its NA and auto BLAH.

Here's a couple of pics of it the first day I started doing body work.

Nothing more fun then a day with spray primer and truck trim paint.

I deff got my 150 dollars worth out of this car, it's not an eyesore but it had sat in the sun for a 2 years so the interior deff took a beating it was nasty tan color anyway.

I dont think there was more then one peace usable from the dash everything was cracked.

But being the car is 20 years old I knew it was in need of an overhaul everything on the car was from 87 the plugs and sparks that I pulled off were also from 87 it was bad,

But then I saw a For sale add on a local Drift forum for an mr2 shell for 350 bucks all he stated was that the title was good it was 5 speed and it was missing a hood and steering wheel.

Surprisingly the car came with decent wheels and tires Hankooks. also note the brakes are upgraded stainless steel lines drilled n slotted rotors and it turns out those aren't the same calipers I have on my 87.

Interior shot

This is what the car came with it was stripped to become an autoX car and the owner ran decided to let it go so now I have a car that has all the ac components ripped and sound material removed making this light car even lighter.

Turns out it has a momo hub so instead of pulling the wheel from the other car I ordered a 6-bolt wheel off ebay.

Rear shot of the car also came with the supercharged engine lid and had a supercharged tranny another plus there more stout then the NA one.

After separating and organizing all the boxes and parts inside the car I found a braille racing battery (One of those tiny ones.) and urathane bushings boxes so that adds to list of mods I found.

And the Huge puzzle begins.

New rear sunshade from toyota that I found in the trunk.

Now the removal of a mid engine motor really sucks compared to something like a Supra or of RWD car.

Stupid random shot the flash scared me. Also shows How high we need to get this thing to remove the motor.

5 hours later its finally out the 4age MONSTA.

hot dam,

you cant pull the motor through the top??? i thought there was enough room /clearence..

i would have put the rear tires on ramps.. but none the less good job and glade you didn't get hurt.

also looks like it's a nice project for start's and great deal on 2 cars.

I've got an 87, sherwood green and tan like that

The car does not have to come that high to get the engine out. You can do it on a set of ramps. I have a few times. We've got a lift now, and that makes it nice, but it isn't necessary. Engine pulls are very very easy on this car if you do it right. I can have one out in 1-2 hours.

I'm setting mine up for road race. I've got the suspension done, just need a little more power now.

my gf has a silver 87 with blue leather interior, she loves the thing. we've just got a shit ton of brake parts to go on (new master cyl, ss brake lines, powerslot cryo'd rotors, hawk pads, toyota caliper rebuild kits). car itself was about $5k with 70,000 miles on the clock :)

You wouldn't happen to have pics of how you setup your engine drop would ya? I just searched on Mr2oc.com and thats how most people drop it when there limited with tools The Carl Crawford way.

Clip - Thats crazy 70,000 the lowest I've seen was 110,000 my friend got that shell for 300 bucks as well seems to be the going rate for one of these.

My car has 92000 on it, I paid a hundred bucks for it with a BHG.

Anyway, easiest way to drop the engine is with all accessories. unplug the harness from the ecu and lay it on top of the engine. disconnect fuel lines, coolant lines, clutch slave and shift linkages. Then pull both axles.

You have the car on jack stands or on ramps, drop the motor onto the floor with an engine hoist, and slide it out from under the car kicked sideways.

Its really not that bad. On a second gen mr2 you have to drop the entire suspension and k member from the rear, and then pull the motor from the bottom. We do those in about two hours.

Thanks yeah my goal is a fun car thats capable of Auto-X and decent gas mileage I also want do road coursing with this car one day as well.

Well the two tone one is gone gave it too my good friend for 100 bucks he picked up another parts car, 2 NA motors and 2 full black interiors, with a complete supercharged swap for a grand. So it seems like Becky (Two tone mr2) Isn't gonna be going to the junkyard so I'm happy about that.

Its high strength steel cable, The bumper bent right back no harm done If the car had good paint on it I would have taken the bumper off.

And Figit we have a full SC swap going into that 2 tone chasis a Na motor was pulled out of that one for my white one.

As a right now the 4age and the 4agze there just gonna have little bolt ons full exhaust and a intake.

But in the teal shell we found another surprise a built bottom end 4age with 4agze internals and a MHG who ever was the owner of that car had left his plans in the back so I'm taking that motor as payment for my two tone shell.

Looks like this build got a lil bit bigger I am still going to use the NA to get around but there will be a 4agte going in the near future.

More pics of the teal shell tonight battery's dead on my cam.
