Hey guys! A few days ago i posted a blog about my 88 supra getting a nasty rod knock ::hang:: . If you haven't seen it, I just brush up on a brief bit of backstory. I'm going to update this post as progress is made. Also, If you guys have any ideas or tips please comment, Thanks!

After I towed my supra back to my shop, I got to work straight away. IMG_20151207_234022.jpg
I decided since i have a very limited amount of space I should pull the transmission first. I first jacked the front of the car up and put it on jack stands. After that I removed the front exhaust, exhaust manifold, front driveshaft, carrier bearing, clutch slave then drained the gearbox oil. Next i went inside the car and removed the shifter from the top of the transmission. Here is a tip I learned for removing a w58 separately from the engine, To make it easy to get the top 2 bell housing bolts (and starter) remove the rear transmission mount so the engine rocks back a bit with the transmission. After a few bell housing and starter bolts, Transmission is out! IMG_20151208_035101.jpg
Next, The 7m. First I went inside the car and unplugged the ecu harness, then pushed it through the firewall. Next my plan of attack was to remove the radiator, coolant hoses, cooling fan , belts and unbolt the accessories (power steering pump and a/c compressor). Last but not least, I pulled both fuel lines, unplugged all extra plugs on the harness, then finally the engine mount bolts. I'm sure I missed something but Engine is now out! Now for the autopsy...
I began pulling The top end off first. Intake y pipe, intake manifold, intake runners, valve covers then I removed the harness off the head among others things.. Time to see how my new oem toyota head gasket I installed 10,000 miles ago has held up! IMG_20151209_032854.jpg
Not bad except for this one spot on #3 cylinder .....IMG_20151209_032913.jpg
I have no idea how that even occurred. When I replaced the head gasket I decked the head, Had mild valve job done, Used ARP head bolts torqued to 85 FT/lbs. If any of you guys have a clue, Please comment. Anyway I wasn't in here for a head gasket issue but it is what it is. Thanks guys for reading! Well its been a while since I've made an update on my red 88 n/a! Since I last posted I've decided on a 7mgte swap! I went and bought a 7mgte short block. I decided to Freshen up the internals a bit (new bearings and rings).
Went and resurfaced my new block and the old head, and slapped it all together! Pic ---> 12530665_606477426170867_1872983042_n.jpg
I got all of the little bits I needed off a friend, such as a 7mgte thermostat housing, turbo with manifold, 7mgte valve cover, 7mgte igniter+coil packs+cps and a full pre 89 yellow plug harness along with ecu. Pic ---> 13129555_215776735480564_176961198_n.jpg
I also couldn't pass up an r154 + oem flywheel + clutch fork and oem clutch for only $400 !!! I was still screwed due to the front driveshaft being different, so for the moment i put my w58 back on with new flywheel and new exedy clutch.
I know I'm missing a bit of stuff but she is up and running now. Pic ---> Screenshot_2016-06-23-04-46-11.jpg
As you can see from the pic a had to swap the power steering reservoir with one from a turbo car ($10 from a junkyard :icon_bigg)
I also got on here and bought an intercooler and ic pipes from akito (thanks again!)
Although I ran into a few problems while doing the swap (such as fuel pump wiring, ps reservoir, sorting out exhaust and just finding parts) It was well worth doing!
Also, since this entire swap was so cheap, that gives me more money to invest into it :icon_bigg
Anyway this just about concludes this update for now. Now comes the mods! Oh wait I mean fix my tachometer :nono: lol. If anyone wants to see more of this build, follow me on instagram @ gregz_0_0
