Some of you may have followed my previous build with my 2JZ-GTE swapped '91 Turbo Targa. I had to pull the engine back out to make some repairs, and I decided to part it out and do something different.
Round 2: Got myself an 86.5 NA hardtop sport package, less weight, stiffer chassis, and a 4.30 LSD, a much better platform to start with when building a track car. The car was orignally an automatic, but I've got an R154 and all 5spd swap parts left from my previous build.
Phase 1 - The engine: Picked up a USDM 93.5 2JZ-GE with 87k miles on it, original owner. (He actually bought my 2JZ-GTE from my 91T to replace the GE in his MKIV.) I even got to see and hear the engine running before it was pulled.
Here it is after I brought it home:
I promptly took it apart to do some cleaning.
Shiny!
Nice and clean on the inside!
GE pan drilled and tapped for oil return flange for if (when) I decide to ad a turbo.
Freshly painted valve covers.
Going back together.
Back together and pushed into the corner to make room for the car.
Phase 2 - The swap:
Old broken and blown up 7M out (I've got some cleaning to do...):
After some cleaning and random crap removal:
More cleaning/removal... And where's my front suspension?
Oh, there it is!
Idiot previous owner hit something hard enough to bend the subframe. I've already had the whole chassis checked and adjusted. All I need now is to get this swapped out for the straight subframe on my '87 parts car.
As it sat yesterday morning before work.
And on to more cleaning...
