the freeze plugs pop out if the water freezes and expands.. lol would be horrible if it popped out when overheating

Those plug the holes from manufacturing. After the block is cast, it is drilled from a bunch of different angles. When completed, they insert those into the drilling ports.

there called frost plugs as for the ball baring mabye some one stuck it in there for peoep to ask qestion's and such

OK i was cleaning my valve covers polishing them etc. took out coil packs cleaned the valley out!! well when i was spraying cleaner shit in the valley which wont hurt anything unless your plugs are loose or not in.
I got my shop vac ready to suck the grime out of the valley but i noticed almost all the cleaner was gone i squirted more and notice the ball things are oil drains for the complex drainage system of the lower valley portion of your 1jzgte head haves designed into it.

If anyone thinks that a "freeze plug" is there to protect the casting from breaking.. they are sooooo wrong.

I've NEVER seen a block push out the casting ("freeze") plugs out upon a freezing event. They are called casting plugs, and are there to remove the sand once the block is cast.
