Turned the key car tried to start, at that exact same time i heard a muted boom not to loud but any boom from the engine bay is not a good sign. No smell, no smoke but i did feel a vibration. My gut feeling tells me its the starter. Now the car will crank but wont fire. Things that i did checked the fuel pump and filter, good. Meaning i did the jumper wire thing. Also sprayed starter flluid into the throttle body, no start. All grounds are good, battery strong, tach flutters when cranking. Belts moved just wont fire. I hand crank the engine to see if the starter jumped a tooth nothing. Also tried a igniter and coil, still nothing. Could the plunger in the starter make a boom sound telling me its dead. It (starter) spins freely. Ok im done. Thanks for taking the time to read.

I'm confused. When you turn the key the starter turns over but the engine does not, is that correct? The starter is not engaging the engine? If the engine cranks with the starter then the starter is not the problem. You've already checked spark and fuel, I would check compression and timing next. Pull the front cover and see if your timing belt skipped a tooth. Do a compression test.

I would check the fuses too. Yesterday I went to kragen to get some oil and put a bit in my motor closed the hood and went to start my car and all it did was crank. Check the connectors to the fuel pump check the plug wires and the distributor and still wouldn't start then started looking around in my fuse box and bam the fuel pump fuse went out when I closed the hood. Took me about an hour to figure it out and it was hot out to.

If you had a boom and no spark now but it cranks over, take the upper timing cover off and make sure you didn't snap the t-belt. Usually if this is the case you will get abnormally fast cranking speed.
