Thinking about picking up the MSD 6A ignition by the end of the month. Just wondering if anybody has had any experience with the unit? I've done a bit of reading and have had a couple people recommend the unit with good results. But I would like to hear some information on it working with a supra and what your experience with it is.

I have a MSD 6a box that I haven't installed yet, but I am going to install it either friday or saturday before I hit the dyno on sunday. I will give you some feedback after I install it and some dyno numbers on Sunday!! If you are going to pick up the 6A box you might also want to check out the Blaster SS coil. The coil is not to expensive and I think it will compliment the 6A box.

P.s. When you order the 6A box don't forget the tach adapter

Yeah, thats was my first thought, do not forget to get the tach adapter, or the car will not run. I had a 6A on for quite some time before I went full standalone and it worked great.

If it's coil overs..., nfmd. I'd rather spend 100 bucks on plug wires, sorry and thanks.

Its not a coil pack it is the ignition coil. It is what helps create the voltage for the distributor. Here is a link to the one I have http://www.msdignition.com/coil_blaster_6_8207.htm

Yeah, you could run just about any single coil with the MSD, but no, not coil packs like the GTE engines have. Well you could, but you would need all the GTE electronics to do so and really has no bennifet for a N/A car.

I considered getting an ignition like MSD. But if you're going that route, than you'd probably want a fuel computer too. In fact, you'll need that fuel computer before you need the ignition. So I decided to just go with a full standalone.

I installed my 6A box today!! The first thing I noticed is that it idles alot smoother, you can put your hand on the motor while it is running and feel almost nothing. the next and the best thing I noticed is even more power in the lower rpms and now when I shift at 6K rpm it seems like the motor wants to keep reving. I would love to have an extra 1500 rpm out of this thing!! With the addition of the power in the lower rpms and the extra up top I really believe I could line up against a few turbo guys and make them think twice about N/As!! After a few more things done to the motor and some suspension upgrades I think I will have a real TRACK MKIII!! (That was so lame but you know what I am saying)!!

If I may ask as to the price of such an up grade in its' totality???

I havve seriously thought about this but for an NA, everyone tells me it's a waiste.

I pick the 6A box from a friend for $100 and I think the tach adapter cost me about $40 with shipping from Summit. Of course everyone told you it is a waste!! For some reason anything that is not a turbo is a waste around here, but that is a topic for another thread!! It is your car, do what you want to it......as long as it is not ricer!! LOL

I hear you about it's my ride and I'll do what I want to it. I don't know what a 6a box is, or where it would go under my hood. I have only herd vague mentions of something you have done that I have not even known how to seek out because I know nothing about it, Lowes should sponsor my car or give me some cash back at the end of the year I am there to fix my car as much as I am at any parts store.

So whats the deal with the tach adapter? Can I order one through MSD? Is it necessary for the 6a system to work? The msd 6a ignition is on sale for $200 right now at Lordco (canadian company) right now, so I think i'll pick one up after I get paid on wednesday!

So in addition to the 6A box, I should pick up the blaster coil upgrade and a tach adapter? I will also pick up some big fat msd ignition wires to go with it when I get some more money.

After all that my ignition system is going to rock! haha... MSD 6A, MSD Blaster Coil, MSD Wires, and NGK R's

i believe that in the first page someone said the car wouldnt work without the tach adapter, or something like that...sounds like a sweet up, track. keep us posted on how it does in the long term.

Still NOT getting the thinking behind this for an NA?

Are you guys revving them hard enough for it to breakdown or running high comp?
IJ i see what you're talking about, but you gotta remember many of the NA's that are left are prob. still running on oem ignition components and after almost 20yrs are taking a dump if not already slowed down. to every one: dont forget to change the cap and rotor too. all that spark and nowhere to go makes no sence.
