Moving to Orlando Area?

Me and a friend of mine might be moving to the Orlando Area (from northeast ohio) since we both hate cold weather and we can only drive our cars like 3 months a year (he drives a civic). We've also got some really good job opportunities making twice what we're making now. Just wondering how many supras are in the area down there and what it's like.

Up here: Cold, slow cars, stupid punk kids, lots of snow/rain, crappy roads, 1 crap drag track, maybe 2 other 3rd gens within 2 hours.

Just wondering what the pro's and con's of Florida are, if the Orlando Area is a good place to be, how's the cost of living? Minimum wage down there (just to get an idea of how good the money is), Ratio of guys to really hot chicks? haha. Just general Info. Never been to florida, but I hate any weather below 70* (8 months of the year up here).

Maybe I'll see you guys around!

Orlando (and central florida in general) has an excellent supra scene. There are plenty of mk3's and mk4's in the area ranging from stock to 1100'ish hp and everything in between. Orlando Speedworld is just a few minutes away (although it's poor traction has earned it the nickname, spinworld). In the summer months it rains almost every afternoon for about 30 minutes, but the beautiful weather the rest of the year more than makes up for that. I've never lived anywhere other than florida, but I've heard our cost of living is pretty low in the scheme of things. If you're basing your decision on the concentration of supras and the weather, I think you'll be hard pressed to beat the orlando and/or tampa areas. If you guys do decide to move, I think you'd really like it. Here's a picture of a few of us that go to UCF before heading out to one of the orlando meets. Let me know if you decide to come and I'll fill you in on all the local spots, people, things to do, etc. Dan

very nice very nice

well...the job I'm looking at starts at $21/hr minimum...I'd probably start around $25/hr. Is that decent money down there? (minimum wage up here is $5.50/hr, if you're making $15 up here without any college education then you're definately in the right place)

I think we'll be coming down in a month or so for a visit to see if we like it so I'll post up when and where and hopefully I'll have my sup and we can have a lil mini-meet. My friend has only ever seen/ridden in my supra...scared to death of it...and it's nearly stock

I couldnt tell ya anything about decent money down here, cause I'm just a poor college kid. :icon_bigg I think minimum wage is around $6.50 now, but don't quote me on that. Yeah, if you guys are serious about moving, I'd definitely take a trip to make sure you like the place first. (going by what you're looking for, I think you will.) If you can somehow plan your trip to be here on a wednesday you'll be able to make it to the UCF meet and maybe even the track. Hopefully we'll have a new mk3 around in the future! dan

The only problem with coming for a visit is that we don't have any money to take a week off work and head down there, that would also set us back money for the big move. We're thinking about hitting up the company we would be working for to get a small loan to get us down there...they said they wanted us down there ASAP and then we could just pay them back. Actually...there might be 2 new supras in the area, I managed to convince my buddy to buy this 87-88 n/a 5spd that has a really good body but a blown engine and it comes with a working engine, which I could swap in for him in a couple days. If we do come down with 2 supras I'll make sure to let you guys know where/when we'll be coming in and hopefully the we can throw together a small supra welcoming party for the new family ;)

more updates coming soon

Thanx for the help guys!

it seems that I'll be coming down for a quick visit on April 10th. Flight leaves cleveland and we're landing in Orlando. My mom called me and asked if I wanted to go to Florida for a week with her....she was rather surprised when I told her that I was probably gonna move down there and she could just leave me there when she left. If everything goes good the big move should be like April 28th or 29th. My mom will be going to Disney World with my sister for a whole day so I'll probably have the rental car all day (since I don't want to go to Disney). I was thinking if any of you guys will be free on that day maybe we could meet up and you could show me around or something. Let me know! I'll get the dates that I'll be free up asap.

I'm sure we can work something out, although it will really depend on my school/work schedule. It's too bad it cant be on a wednesday so you can go to the UCF meet, but anytime is better than never. Let us know more details as it gets closer to time. Dan

Just moved from Orlando back to Atlanta. Orlando does have its good points
however you had better like big time HEAT. From end of MAY till end of Sept.
the temp will be in the 90s or more with humidity to match. Atlanta still has
4 seasons which I like unlike Orlando which has 2 - short spring very long very Hot
Summer. Roads "are" first class and a fairly low level of traffic enforcment.
Housing is getting VERY expensive. I Owned a home in a neiborhood in south
Orlando called Hunters Creek. (4brms 3 bath) purch, for 220K two years ago
just apraised (Nov 05) for $410K. There is a realy potent white MKIII supra
running around south Orlando near the Osceola Co. line. Good luck with the
move.

ps there is no emission test in Fla.

Hey man, missed your update. That sounds like you're pretty booked on the good car days (wed/fri). I have early classes on tuesday and wednesday morning (that im not doing so hot in), so I wouldn't be able to do too much at night. Actually I'm just trying to think of what there is to do period... If we could get up a little group it would be better, but I can't really speak for anyone else. It's a shame you can't be here on a wednesday night, it would give me an excuse to wash my car and make the UCF meet. Well, keep us updated. dan

change of plans, coming down on may 1st (be there around 7pm) and leaving friday may 5th (very very early)

Just wondering if there's a local track that you guys go to on wednesday nights. I'd like to stop in and see some of you guys run.

some folks go to the track every now and then. I've actually been meaning to go myself sometime just to get a baseline before i do quite a few more mods. If you're going to be here on wednesday, you'll definitely have to go to the UCF meet. Maybe we can make it to the track too. Glad you liked Florida. Do you know what area of O-town you're looking for a place in? keep in touch bro, dan

we will be down monday-friday (1st-5th). I would like to go to the UCF meet...but what is it?

The whole reason we're coming down for the week is to find jobs and an aparment or some form of housing. I hear there are some not-so-good area's of orlando and we really don't want to end up there (expecially with the supra and an 07 eclipse sitting in the parking lot).

So we'll probably all over orlando and surrounding area's. We've gotta contact some more employers and meet up with them and the apartment mangagers during the day but I should be free wedensday night.
