Mouth Ulcers

Seriously - how do these things just appear out of nowhere? One morning my lower lip where it meets the gum is a bit sore...then BAM - 4 ulcers, a sore throat and my tongue is all swollen. I can't eat anything and nothing i'm taking seems to have an effect. So far i've tried:

Ibuprofen (200mg)
Aspirin (1000mg)
Chewable Tetracaine Hydrochlorate (0.2mg)
Lidocaine Strepsils (lozenges)
Salt Water Mouthwash
Bonjela

Out of all of those Bonjela stings a bit when you put it on the ulcer itself, but it doesnt seem to do a lot and i keep having to resist the impulse to lick it off (its horrible stuff).

How long do they take to go away, what can i take to make the swelling and pain subside and how in the name of cake and buggery did they just appear like that?!

Stress related? I've had some of these when I've been completely stressed for long periods of time. Dr and dentist both told me it wasn't bacterial or viral and that they were only known to be attributable to stress, but I can't remember what they called them. They were agonizing and not much soothed it - only getting over the stress made them go away. If that's what you've, get some exercise and take care of whatever's got you worked up. GL

Oddly enough, i had some chicken soup and a glass of water....with 1000mg of acetominophen and it seems to have worked a little more than anything else. My throat is still sore but the jaw swelling has subsided....sleep should fix the rest...and time...

Herpes not AIDS ;)

Most people have been exposed to the virus and stress will trigger them.

Certain foods also.

and what IJ means is the chicken pox, youve had it you have it still hidden somewhere. right after i turned 21 i got shingles (which is caused by the dormant virus) and is treated with the same medicine herpes (the STD) is (valtrax i think) its a scar on my back now but luckily enough for our kids there is a vaccination for chicken pox

it's a completely different herpes...

doesn't get transmitted either, so no worries. The sore throut isn't related from what I've had experience with though.

Canker sores are a bitch, but they sell little disks now that will protect em from irritation while they heal on their own. Tomota juice tends to make em go away for me (and I HATE tomato juice)
