How long of bolts do you recommend I should buy? 1" longer than stock? 1 1/2" longer? I want to make sure my engine doesn't fall of the stand due to its weight. What kind/size bolts have you guys used? Thanks.

EDIT: I guess what I'm trying to ask is how far do the bolts thread into the engine. I would check but that means i have to pull alot of stuff from the garage to get the motor right now. I don't want to do that and put it all back because I'm going to the store for the bolts right afterward. Any help or advise?

Depends on your stand. The bolt only needs to go about an inch into the motor, the rest is taken up by your engine stand.

yeah, i couldn't use the trans bolts cause of my engine stand. i had to go out and get some bolts. i figure they need to be threaded in about an inch. i'm was just afraid the motor might fall off (snap the bolts) cause of the weight. the bolts that i bought has "8.8" stamped on the back of them. i don't know if those are grade 8's or better? anyway, thanks for the replies guys.

Depends on the engine stand, My latest stand has 3/4" thick arms with 3/4" flanges on the end, to the stand eats 1.5" of the bellhousing bolts which leaves less than .5" to thread into the block...

They didnt sell the right bolts anywhere in my city so I had to order them. I got 10mm X 1.25mm and 80mm long....they thread about an inch into my engine and work fine. too many hillbillies up here and nothing for toyotas....unless I order from the factory and thats a joke.

I'm using trans bolts ATM. My old engine stand needed crazy long bolts, and I didn't think to gather up more alternator bolts... I had some studs cut from hardened drill bit steel, and they worked great! He forgot to check on the machine, so I got 2 extras for free. lol
that was a worst case scenario, and it only cost like $35 for all 6 of them

He did, but I think he sold them all. If he could post here what size they were it would probably help... ::HINT, HINT:: :)

10 x 1.25 x 100 long from memory

that's the size i bought from NAPA. i'm ashamed to say i paid a grand total of $13 and some change. :icon_eek: i went to home depot to look first, but all they had in the grade 8 bolts were SAE size. no metric. they had general use bolts in metric, but the longest they had was 10 x 1.25 x 80mm long. not long enough. the guy at Home Depot refered me to some nut and bolt specialty shop that i couldn't find. so i went to NAPA and got them. i was about to walk away from the $13 dollar bolts, but i hate driving around just to get a better price so i bought them. oh well.

EDIT: that was for four bolts & four lock washers. go ahead guys, tell me how dumb i am. :(
