does anyone know which motor this is? 7m? 1j? 2j? all I know that its a twin cam. I'm planning to rebuild this motor, or is it worth rebuilding? or is there a certain thing that tells what the motor is

Slanted valve covers = 5M-GE or 6M-GE
If the crank is stamped "7M" it's a 6M-GE

Or count the valves. 12 valve = 5 or 6, 24 = 7

6M-GE = 5M head on a 5M block with 7M crank.

I think. Don't quote me on that last part.

no im pretty sure thats not a 7m. its gotta be a 6m or 5m. look at the way the top of the head slants off to the side. and also the rear timing cover is all one piece, on a 7m the rear timing cover is divided into two different pieces

It is definitely a 5M or 6M, although I am leaning more towards 5M.

NOT A 7M.

The engine designation is right near the oil filter

this is the downside of forums:

- some can say with absolute certainty what the answer is....and be completely wrong.
- some can read the right answer and still think completely wrong...

actually, 6ms have 6m cranks.

86-88 7ms have 6m cranks :)

OMG

LOOK AT THE DAMN CASTING MARK ON THE BLOCK.

no one cares about the 6M crank and whether it came in an early 7M block or not. this CLEARLY has the 12 valve 5M/6M head, which is what we are trying to determine
