Everyone raves at the hydrofan setup and ya know that's terrific for all who have it complete or what have you.

But, All I have is the pump on the side of my motor and the hydrofan ECU, yet I dont have the radiator, fan, or shroud that goes with such.

So in your opinion (experience) wouldn't it be better to go with the mkiv assembly?.. I imagine it would also be cheaper in my case, being that I'd have to find and purchase the jdm assembly correct?

you might be able to get a USDM assembly and fan and clutch cheaper than the rest of the hydrofan assembly

thats what im thinking, it wont be that much loss of cooling ability will it Bigz?

with the US assembly (ive got a soarer 1J setup actually) no matter how long ive let the car sit or how many consecutive pulls ive made while having fun or tuning, its never gone above halfway up the gauge, usually sits right below 1/2 way up

From my own experience, hydrofan parts are a bitch to find. The pump on my JZA70 went on me and a new one from japan was over $900 dollars for just the pump. I swapped to the MKIV mechanical pump that I picked up from toyota for under $200 and just ran some e-fans. I run about the same temp as I did with the Hydrofan. But if you decide to keep the hydrofan and need parts I have everything except the shroud so just shoot me a PM.

Hmm interesting.. well, on the one hand, get a brand new mkiv pump etc. Or get the rest of those parts off you for the hydrofan.

Now that just doesn't make an easy decision haha. So I'm guessing you (justin) got rid of the mkiv assembly because of issues with the pump then judging by the context..

I've heard a few ppl having them go bad, I always assumed because of age or wear and tear (perhaps both).

Thanks for the advice though fellas, it helped me out quite a bit. Justin, I'll PM you if I decide on those other parts.

Well what happened to mine was the bearings started making alot of noise on me so instead of waiting for it to self destruct on itself I picked up a hydrofan pump off a clip which ended up being no good so I decided to say fuck it and just did the MKIV swap. Now if it goes on me I don't have to hunt for parts I can just go to my local toyota dealer and pick up parts that are fairly inexpensive and brand new.

I'm running a 2jz clutch fan with stock rad and never had a problem even in the summer with the ac on. I had a working hydrofan setup in my clip but converted to 2jz as I did not want to take a chance of the hydrofan braking and ending up costing more $$ sourcing a replacement.

i have the hydro fan set up. got the ECU from DM for like 30 or 40 bucks and the radiator and fan and shroud for 130 from a member on here. and then had a high pressure line made for 50

well worth it. mine stays a little above 1/4 on the gauge. no problems yet

you have to use the 2J fan clutch and fan on the 2J pump.

so 130$ or so for the pump assembly and then 75 bucks or more depending on the MKIV guy selling the fan

haha, reaper beat me to it, but like he said you would need the JZ fan and clutch to run run it that way, or you could use e-fans

excuse the shameless plug, but im actually selling a JZ fan and clutch right now.

the holes wont line up using the 7m you will have to use a jz type fan if you want to go with the non hydro pump (and a non hydro serpentine belt). you cant use the hydro pulley either (its a lot larger and *wont* connect anyway) cheapest ive seen for this is 50$ from toyotapartscheap.com so i bought a driftmotion pulley set (oem size) and it worked fine. and its much cheaper to find a mkiv guy selling the clutch and fan because buying them both new is around 350$
