2.6 inline 6, was very similar to that years celica body style with small differences..and the obvious powerplant differences..no true Celica, (Celica-Supra's aside) has ever had anything more than 4 cyls.

79-81.

The 79-80 had the 4M-E engine, it was Toyota's first EFI engine.
In 81 it got the 5M-E engine.

The 4M-E is 2.6L, the 5M-E is 2.8L.

Solid rear axle, 4 wheel disc brakes, pretty decent car for driving around, but not really a performance vehicle. A 7M-GTE would be nice in one .

It would fit, no doubt about it. It shares the same engine block with the 7M-GTE, fitting the intercooler and piping would be a bit of a challenge, but certainly not hard I don't think.

The rear end is only a 7.5" diff, it's tough, but a high-hp setup may break it, I dunno. Not as tough as the MK3 diff anyways.

The rear end wouldn't bolt into the MK3 very easily, it's almost a direct swap into 82-85 Celica (non-GTS) and 84-87 Corolla RWD cars. I'm going to be running one in my AE86 eventually.

Ya, it fits. Damon Saul in PA has one or 2...only problem I ever saw with it was the lack of rear suspension support for the torque...The rear bumper almost hit the ground a few times when he launched it here that I saw...

7M-GTE fits

and you fit in a hi-lux diff under the back end and get a G series diff same as ma70

bigest + is that its about 600kg's lighter then an MA70
