Hey guys just wanted to let you know, not sure if you know about this place. But they have carrier bearings for our supras 49.99 shipped to you door, instead of paying $220 from the dealer, or doing the ford ranger carrier bearing swap. I just received mine today and it looks great and of good quality. they also have em for the mk2. heres a link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290775605769?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Here is a pic of the actual item i received. 2.jpg

Not to make them sound bad....but when the dealer charges 220 and a store on ebay charges 50......There was a shortcut taken somewhere. I think I will let you drive around with it for a bit and then if there are no problems, then I might grab a few just for long term or my buddies here local and over seas. Great find though if it truely is a good product.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure it is a great product....And it really was a good find. I just want to see someone test it out first before I buy it.

Well the bearing is in, feels good. took away my driveshaft slop from my old worn out one. We will see how it holds up. As far as the box, It doesnt say. Just a plain white box with part numbers on it. Im sure it was prolly made in a sweat shop somewhere for 3 cents. Whatever it took away my problem.

Good for you. Gotta remember some times the dealer is over priced.

NO never......lmao What made the comment even better was the "sometimes" that was added in there. I have yet to find one thing that is reasonably priced from a dealership.

Glad it took care of the problem. I will check back in a few weeks and see how the thing is holding up.

For things that aren't made by anyone else, their prices aren't always terrible. For example, the various shrouds. Given that you either have to fabricate them yourself, or buy from the dealership, I don't think their prices were all that unreasonable.

OP, please keep this thread updated. A carrier bearing isn't something that should wear out for a LONG time (or after a decent amount of abuse), so if it fails on you any sooner than a few years... I would say to go with the dealer. If however, you never have anything but good things to report, then maybe you've found a good source. What are the odds that company will still be producing these things though?

Dealership cheaper, definitely not, better quality, often.
No argument here. :)

Therein lies the fun of keeping an older car on the road...there's always a chance that the parts will stop being made, and there's a scramble just to have things "just in case" or risk an expensive custom setup.

Lonnie, I have a 48 Chevy in the garage as we speak. I think I missed the boat on buying up "leftover new stock" parts.

'48 or '46? ;)

Actually doesnt Chevy still supply a good set of parts still for 50-60 years old? Or is it just random NOS leftover parts, and stuff for the 350 that they made for 50+ years anyways?

The weirdest stuff is available when other things you'd expect to be available are discontinued with our cars. That plastic CPS cover? Still available, and less than $30 IIRC. MkII tail lights? Nope. MkII A/C blower motor? Can still get it! MkIV passenger sun visor? Nope! Etc.

While dealer parts are great and all, you can walk into any Advance or CarQuest and get OES (original equipment supplier) and get the same part at usually a fraction of the cost. They usually even have the dealer markings. They will not have them in stock but Advance takes about a week, CQ usually overnight. Also check out WorldPac, same deal. That is in fact who CQ uses.

Pretty sure it is a 48, going off the paint code. The bill of sale that my buddy (who I bought it from) has from the owner before him says it is a 46. Either way they look close enough, and there really is no way of knowing 100%, at least none that I am aware of. Its older than the two people living here, so that's good enough for me. :p Updated sig by the way, been meaning to do that actually.

As far as NEO stuff for these cars, I wouldn't be surprised. They didn't do V8's from the factory until the 50's anyway, but the I6 offering was used well into the 80's, and IIRC, the 90's in some regions. However, it is pretty irrelevant in my case, all I care about is the body. Check my thread in other cars if you want to know more. :)
