Hi, im new to supramania and to all the custom tuning you guys all do to your supras, I'm trying to figure out how some of you guys run without your airflow meter or a cam position sensor, I have been looking at alot of pics and see some air intakes with no meter and a couple of places i saw on the forum people were talking about plugging up the hole in the head for the CPS since they don't use it. Im a mechanic at a toyota dealer in AZ so i understand the way engines run but im tring to understand and learn how to tune and modify these cars. Any info you guys have would be great. Thanks

The 1jz does not use an airflow meter. It runs a speed density setup via a map sensor. It is the same setup as a 2jz and the Mr2 which you should come across being a mechanic.

right i know about manifold absolute pressure sensors and everything i was just wondering about the 7m's that arnt using the meters, although i didn't know that 1jz's used map sensors, and i thought 2jz engines used a maf sensor but then again all i have ever done to one of those was a clutch and it was a n/a.

USDM 2JZ's have MAF's. JDM 1JZ & 2JZ = MAP

The 7M's missing the CPS are most likely using a standlone engine management with a trigger wheel on the crank or flywheel.

If a 7M doesn't appear to have an AFM in front of the turbo it is either running a stanalone, MAF-T Pro, Map ECU, or VPC. It is also possible that they are running a MAF-T, and running a MAF sensor in blow through (after the turbo in the IC piping).

The 7m uses the karman vortex. There are different systems that convert that signal and use a map sensor to acquire a reading and "trick" the ecu. Maft-pro, e-manage ultimate, hks vpc (vein pressure controller), and of course full standalones (engine management systems that replaces the stock ecu entirely) are needed to do that.

Ok thanks, I was planning on getting the AEM standalone after i was done with my build, does anyone here have a AEM standalone for there Mk3 with a 7m in it? What do you think of it? and is it worth all that money?

I have an AEM but I swapped in a NA 2jz. I am not up and running yet. Should be soon (relative term)
