I found an 83' supra for 400 but needs a clutch. Which means getting another cluth and getting it done by a pro(don't feel up to the challange yet) which will add to the cost.

What I was wondering should I try and prusue the mk2 or keep saving and get a mk3 when I see a good deal on one?

My advice? Don't buy ANY supra for $400...if you really want a Supra, the spend the extra cash and take the extra time to find one in good shape that has been well maintained...or you will just end up in a nightmarish ordeal. (that is, unless you're a Supra mechanic, of course...:))

thats a pretty good price any rust? you would probly want to change out the motor. i picked mine up for 200 and a parts car for 350. but am tearing it down and replace the interior and dropping a 7m gte in it. but if your paying someone to replace the clutch i wouldnt buy it unless you are going to go all the way with it.

Was already leaning to the mkIII, it just seems like I can have more fun with it. That and already planning a build for a mkIII.

Mk2 is definitely worth the $400 if the body and interior are in nice shape and the engine runs good. Bad clutch is no big deal really.

If your not up to the challenge of putting a clutch in, i would stay away from an MK2.

I would stay away from the Mk3 also.... or ANY older car for that matter.

I also have owned both!!! I really liked my MK2 when I had it but from what I understand parts are becoming hard to come buy for them now. I personally would look for an 89+ MK3 if I were in your shoes. Just my two cents!!!

I've owned and loved both myself. Both cars can be fun depending on your past. If you are used to driving a beater, an MKII is a fun car to drive. I used to love how I could get that car sideways, and then whip it right back into control on a dime, never worrying about losing it. But I also kinda love how the turbo MKIII has the power to not be so completely manageable. The MKII is notorious for rusting, much more than the MKIII. And the MKIII rear diff is also much stronger and durable.

So, I'd have to say wait for the MKIII. If your funds are limited, you can find one on the cheap needing either BHG repair, or just plenty of good easy maintainence jobs. But remember........................

You got called out by a GIRL! on the clutch job.:bigthumb: Hey Tanya!

She's our most loved MKII Goddess who could help you with ALL things MKII.

i own both. and after five mkIIIs and two mkIIs i would have to say i like the mkII alot better. the way they are built is almost the same. and after changing my mind the mkII get the turbo and the mkIII stays n/a. dont get wrong i love both just dont like how every thing on the mkIII is heavy. then again i only paid 200 for my rust free mkII. plus i like the moon roof way better then the taga. you should just keep looking for a good mkII.

I've had both as well, and I'd go for the Mk2 given a choice between two cars in equal shape.

A Mk2 without serious rust will be hard to find.

A clutch job on a Mk2 is a 3 hour job by yourself if you know what you are doing.

Ide love a MKII and if I ever sell my MKIII, I'm going to get one. MKII + 1uz + nitrous + turbo 350 = fun with wide tires.
