I have a 1987 model and behind the drivers seat on the transmission hump there is a large bolt hole and there is an impression in the carpet suggesting a piece of trim was there. What did the missing bolt hold down and what was the trim covering?

Seat belt holder.

I would have thiught so but the seat belt holder is in. In the pic you can see the seat belt holder and above that is my finger pointing to the bolt hole as seen while in the passenger seat looking down on the drivers side.

Hmm without a picture i would guess its the bolt that holds the bar that slides into the seatbelt.
I'm with Jay on this one...

I believe this picture is of the bottom seat belt mounting point on the door side. There is a bracket that guides the seat belt buckle when you move the seat forward or backward. That bracket is what I believe you are missing.

On the passenger side opposite there is a cover that goes toward the front and it looks like its covering a wire but without pulling the seat its hard to see.

DSC00851.JPG I pulled the passenger seat and low and behold I found the doodad that goes on the drivers side under the seat! Its a bracket that goes thru (but slides thru not bolted to) the seat belt reciever. im not sure what it does but at least part of the mystery is solved but I need the bolt cover.

Shouldn't be too hard to find at a junkyard as it isn't something that most people are looking for. Just an FYI the bolt cover slides over the slide and then clips on so if you can try to do it before you bolt the seats back in or you will have to pull them out again to put them on.

thanks so much! i've had the car for a year but haven't had much time too do much with it. It has 42K miles on it and runs very well. I've cleaned it up some, added Gates blue timing and drive belts and all front engine seals. BTW what does the slide do?
