well i just got my car up and running, took it out into my neighborhood and it randomly misfires, im thinkin its the CPS, cuz the timing is on and set at 10 degrees, it has new plugs wires and coils, now the wiring on the CPS is a lil ragged, it leaks oil and its a lil rusted inside (i dont have a dust cover). the misfire is random, when i drove it itd run great then just cut for a sec, and run normal, then cut and so on. so does this sound like the CPS or somethin else??? any help is greatly appreciated

I come from a land down under
BZ: Seems to be quite a few instances of bad CPS wiring and corrosion of the connectors!

Try clipping/unclipping the connector a bunch of times to see if it makes a difference.

Sorry to dig up a old thread but i did a search on cps and this thread describes my symptoms closer than anyothers.
Replaces my leaking cps with my non leaking cps.Checked the airgaps and were inside specs.Go to install it and start up.She dies quickly after starting if I dont give it a bootful.(when its running its like a real dog.missing n coughing n smoking)
Checked codes, reset ecu and rechecked codes.
Same codes appear. All relate to the afm.
I check my afm and its all fine.
Check the ground coils on the cps and G1 is a nogo.
So i m waitin for my motor to cool down before i can change it back.
Is there or has anyone changed a faulty coil out of a cps and replaced it with a working one? I notice there are 2 phillips head screws holding each one in place so will it be a case of unscrew and clip wire and solder new wire and screw in new coil pickup?

swapped my origional cps back in and car is still not running as before(but it will rev smoothly just wont idle whereas before it wasnt reving smooth and wont idle).I think i may have damaged the afm when i was cleaning out the pipes.I will have to wait till tomorow to swap afms and see. Ahh the joys of a 7m

EDIT
Went for a test run just now.Car drives fine then the check engine light comes on and runs like its missing, then the light goes away and its fine, Seems like when its going from closed loop to open loop?? (if you know what i mean) its tends to miss. When im accelerating its fine, just cruising at constant throttle is when its missing.

Ok just swapped with my mates afm.Its running fine, just a low idle at about 500rpm but dosnt stall as often.Time for the lex afm upgrade with new electronics.
