Hows it goin guys, Ive asked some of these questions before but never really got any straight answers. So sorry for being repedative. I have a BRAND NEW 2mm Cometic HG. My block is prepped and cleaned, the heads coming back from the shop this weekend. When installing, i read somewhere that it was recomended to do a "dry" install, because of some coating that is already on the gaskets when there new. Now do I do the dry install and disregard what ive read everywhere about copper spray and the brake stuff? and do i disregard what some have said about silicone on the 2 parts of the front of the motor that seperate the block from the timing case?

basically the question is, do i do a dry install and just let the gasket and its "coating" do the job and bolt it all down?

thanks for the info, so the cometic does have more "forgiveness" over the other name brands because my block has been preped and what not, motors only 30,000 miles old, the toyota stock that was tq'd down blew because of an over heat, the water jackets actually went, anyway, the head was done, the block looks great, i got from that was dabs of silicone at the case, and a dry install. this is all for 2mm cometic, sound good?

Post #9 in the thread I posted above outlines what you need for prep. The RA spec is very important for proper MHG seal. The Cometic is only more "forgiving" in the sense that the RA spec is 50...most others require a RA of 30. "Looking good" does not mean the RA spec is met...if you can feel the machine swirl marks with your finger nail on the head or block deck, it's not smooth enough.

Again...read the TRSM on removing/installing the head/block. Follow it exactly unless you want to do this again. ;)

i cant feel any swirls or anything on the block, im pretty certain that it should turn out alright, i was going to go stock hg and arp studs to avoid all of this, and my machine guy actually talked me into going cometic, and im pretty certain that he knows what hes talking about. I know empera and a few others on here have done other methods and have had good luck. i was really just curious about the dry install part. im not trying to be rude or anything so sorry if you think i am and i appreciate the help
