If you're a man....
And you're NOT the bread winner in your home...

Does this make you feel like you're on egg shells around the house?
Do you still "call the shots" when SHTF?
Were you the main bread winner and now you're not - how have things changed? Or have they?

Input please.....

I'm the only bread winnner right now. We decided for the wife to stay home and raise our son. What's going on with you? What happen to the business? I'll search for a thread about it, unless you want to post a link.

The wife and I were really close to 50-50. Then, I got laid off last week. It sucks, but I had a very small 401K, that I cashed out. I am paying my house note out for the rest of this year. That way, if I can't get a job in this market, things won't get too much tighter than they were when I was working. I won't stress over the house for a good while, while all I have is unemployment. Anybody know where an unskilled, uneducated guy in south Alabama can get a job, while more people get laid off daily?

SA - I don't think your situation is relevant to this discussion.

I think it's about how the non breadwinner feels about their partner bringing in more than them, and how this is emotionally challenging for them to deal with, given society's "norm".

sucked having to ask my girl for money, but I got through it, and I now make double what she does..

doesn't make me feel like less of a man, but it sure makes me feel like less than a regular person with a job, that's for damn sure..

I had a millionaire girlfriend once upon a time - it bugged the living shit out of me... it created a major gap between the two of us - we thought we could make it work, and things ended terribly.

All decisions in my house are 50-50, regardless of who makes more. I honestly wish I could spend more time with my son since I missed the first nine months and will soon be missing another 12.

I'd prefer if my gf / wife was the bread winner. :O.

Ditto, I'd love to be a gigilo :icon_razz

I would have no problem if wifey made more than my current salary, we would have very little worries then. And I would still tell her to get back in the kitchen where she belongs:sarcasm:

Lucky for me she doesnt read this forum so i can talk shit :D

I closed it down about 2 years ago now and went to work for Cummins Diesel Engine company.

Why the hell does it matter who the breadwinner is?

Not sure that it does. Just wondering if I, emotionally, am going to struggle with it, or if she may struggle with it?

More or less.

Correct.

But as long as bills are covered, it shouldn't matter who brings in the money.

True.....

Bingo. Not sure emotionally how either of us will deal with this. Personally, I think both of us won't change a bit. But you never know. People are indeed that - people. People change, and some times money changes people. A little scared that for once in her life - she won't be "dependent" on some one, and may sprout wings and fly away. :3d_frown:

This was what I wanted to hear. I don't want to feel "castrated".

finally, after 13 years of marrage and 3 degrees, my wife makes more than me.::w00t:: It's about damn time she makes more than me.

And no I don't have a problem with it.

Thanks for the input....

This is what scares me. Not that she'll be a true millionaire, but yea she'll be making like 4 times what I am.

I was brought up in a house with the male being the bread winner, but I wouldn't mind playing Mr. Mom when I have a kid, and get allowance on the side...I could deal with dirty diapers, no problems.
