Ok id first like to say that the road we chose wasnt ideal for traction, not to mention it was like 38* out and the raods were freezing, this even for a "torqueless wonder" 1j made 1st gear a joke.

Ok my buddys car:

All of a 3ft long exhaust, literally it comes off the turbo and into that muffler.

Ok well tonite his boostcontroller is messing up and hes only seeing 10-11psi. And for this race i wanted to tune my car up to 11.6-12.1 a/f, but i couldnt get my labtop to work so i was stuck at 10.8-11.2. Anyway he called me out to do a few dig races.

So we line up and launch, well i might as well been on ice cause i didnt get traction for anything, and i dont dump i harshly fade my clutch and still smoked em like nothing. i even let off and got back init to give the tires a chance to hook... nothing. So he wheelhops his way out a car and ahalf ahead between bumpers, i hit second and start pulling up on him, ~65 i go for 3rd and am at his back bumper, when we let out just over 100mph i was a little over a car ahead.

So we go again, This time i do a little burnout, just a last ditch effort to get some heat into my tires and attempt to do something resembling a launch. Well it worked better than i thought, as it catches and i bog 2800rpm and with my cams i have zero power until 3400, well luckily he bogged also, so its a race to spool, lol well he spools a slpit second before me and gets out 1/2 a car, well i spin again dont gain anything hit second and walk past him, put ~1.5 on him through 2nd, 3rd to 100 i had 2.5 on him.

It would have been a much better race had he been on 15psi instead of 10, so we decided to run again in the spring, hell have his boost issues worked out, ill have tuned better and gotten my Hardpipes and a FMIC installed as im still on stockers. And well race again both with DragRadials.

yeah right, his is a fast lil mr2. 10psi for him is still a low 13sec mister2.

Dont post it on stlsr, we are waiting for the rematch to post.

just for future referance unless you have a drag compound tire don't do a burnout and expct more traction, the compound used in a common street radial is designed to perform best at the heat reached under normal drivving conditions, doing a burnout before your run will only hurt you if anything just give them a real quick spin to remove any debris but not to heat them up

Correction, doing a over the top smokey burnout will melt the rubber and give it a greasy like tread, resulting in less traction. however doing a small burnout to get the tire upto operating temperature (i.e 3-4secs) will make the tires tacky and grip better than if they were cold to the touch, tire compound no matter what type grabs better when its warm, its still rubber based. So heating the tire does help. My tires the second race were tacky enough to be kicking up rocks onto the Mr2 afterwards, so i think it worked.

Yes im still on stock twins, stiill on stock intercooler and balloon pipes. :aigo:

sorry, i took you mistakenly took you for an average import drag racer, the kind that go to the track and drive right throught the water pit before removing about half thew tread from the tires

1J swapped MA70 an average drag racer?

I think not. ;)

Very nice kill and seems like you've got a lot going for you with your car.

Have you ran at the tracks yet?

I ran once and i was detonating and pulling timing 2/3 down the track. Basically the stock twins will yield power up to 23psi, after that no more power, so i tuned for 20psi, thiniking i was ok, well that 23psi was for stock cams, my 272/264 setup lets in a bit more air, so 20psi was like 26 on stock cams, i ran a 13.0 @106 with a 1.9 60'. i turned the boost down to 18psi and boy what a differance a little timing makes. To give you an idea of what she runs now, i plan to throw on a set of 275/40/17 M/T Et Street Radials, skinnies up front shoot for 1.6 60's and grabbing that stock twin record away from the 240guys. The record now is 12.35, id like to beat that.

Ok bad news, i got a call earlier that he just blew up his Mr2, got on it going up a hill, and heard a knock over his radio and turbo. So hes pulling the motor and saving upa few grand for a stroker kit. i may be in trouble.

Not really, I had one and was unimpressed by what you have to do to get power out of them. They can be fast, but require a lot of work and still I was not impressed with the power with a stroker kit. So you still have the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm not sure of you mods but if your on stock twins I'm surprised you took that mr2 I expected more out of a light rocket like that even at 10psi.

I put down 350whp before the tune and i was running into 9:1 a/f most of the power band, ive pulled nearly 35% out since then and still only at 10.8-11.2 a/f's ideally id like to be close to 12:1, roughly our best guesstimate is its a 12.6-12.7 and a 110-112 trap car as is. With a good set of Dr's im hoping to pull off low 12's next season with a bit more agressive tune. At 10psi id expect that mr2 to only be low 13's at best, like 13.2 or so, the turbo is no where near its efficency range. so .6 tenths of a second is a huge gap.
