I've recently noticed the sound of air hissing on my intake side. I can't recall if this was a normal sound of my engine or not. My vacuum at idle is a rch over 20" (on a calibrated refrigeration gauge) which is pretty good. I've checked all the hoses and vacuum lines and nothing seems amiss. I've also sprayed starting fluid all over each fitting and hose with no noticable results so I may be alright. Recently, I've taken off the throttle body and ISC valve to install RC engineering injectors and I thought the injector/head grommets seemed a little looser than normal on a stock injector (I installed brand new Toyota grommets) but they definitely appeared to have seated correctly. I also sprayed starting fluid down around each injector where it goes into the head with no noticable changes in idle.

My question is: With your engine running, do you hear air flow/hissing sounds around the throttle body/intake manifold area?

Chris, that sound could be the vacum sound from the intake vacum hoses. Some od them have pretty strong vacum. I used to hear it all the time in my 7m as well. Especially the hose that goes to the cannister.

Yeah, I'm sure it is just the normal sound but I want to be sure due to all the issues I've been having with setting up the MAFT Pro. I don't want to rule anything out and you know me, I'm a perfectionist.

did you replace the gaskets on the throttle body when you took it off?

I'm with him on this one. I took off my old TB on my 2G and put a larger one one (this was a couple years ago). I forgot the replace the gasket and it developed a vacume leak, resulting in the hissing noise and higher idle RPM's.

I sprayed starting fluid all around that area and didn't notice anything amiss.

Hmm, did you reuse the old gasket? When I took mine off it disentegrated on me :(. It could very well be a normal noise, but I don't recal ever hearing it on mine, but I wasn't really looking for the noise either. I'll check my supra this weekend for that noise and see if I have it too.

Few things u could ck:

1 EGR to intake gasket. (If u still use one).

2 ISC gasket.

3 There's a ck. valve and seal inside the intake right behind the ISC. Gotta remove the ISC.

4 Vacuum lines under the manifold.

5 Couplers connecting piping to intake.

6 upper intake to lower intake gasket.

HTH, and good luck!
