MAFT-PRO vs. MAP ECU vs. HKS VPC

Hey guys,

I am looking to pick up a piggy back system for the Supra. I know now there are a few options to consider. I am looking for one with the least hassle.

I want to run speed density with this setup. I will be running at least 680cc injectors, T4 turbo etc.

I am leaning towards a MAP ECU V1 because it is the cheapest.

What does everyone think?

Im biased toward the Mapecu because I had one :) Pretty easy to understand but tuning can take some time as the karmen vortex system is very sensity to change so it takes time to get the car to run just right

I have teh HKS VPC, and FCON on a jumper harness and I had zero problems. Plus no MAF to deal with. I left all the knobs at 12 position on the VPC and the FCON on 7 and I had a T70 running 18 psi without a single problem. Oh and 550 injectors. I havea MAP ECU 1 here, never used it and never would have since I had no problems with the HKS setup.

Isn't MAF more accurate than MAP?

Why is it a shame?

Yes. It is a shame that the MA70 didn't use that technology that came out in the mid 80's.

The bridged resistors in the mass airflow meter can "count" the air molecules. Speed density is a calculated guess. Mass airflow is more accurate and works better for what it is trying to do.

I have a Maft pro running speed density, timing monitor/control, and boost control. The thing I like about the Maft pro is that it has a lot of options. The only downfall is trying to find up to date information, but once you figure it out it's fairly simple.

So are you suggesting against a MAP over MAF system then? Isn't the MAF 'guessing' about the airflow through the sensors since it doesn't read the whole opening or is it sophisticated enough to have already counted for the air that passes around the sensor?

@Indigo: It is however his thread asking for information.

When I was looking into it my understanding became basically:

Maftpro: most ability to tune, harder for most tuners to learn
Mapecu1: easier to tune, less features than maftpro
HKS VPC: Old set and forget technology, it works and takes the least screwing with, however need an additional piggyback like an safc to tune with.

If you want to have to tune everything for the MAFT and map ecu, then run them. My VPC was plug and run. I have no AFM, ran 20 psi on a T70 and not a single issue. I left all the knobs at 12 o clock until I tuned my Fcon, which was a knob and a few pulls on the highway. In all it took me about 10 minutes to get it running good. Good luck finding a setup though. Most people don't want to get rid of the setup. I do though...lol.

I am not sure how you got that knowing a mass airflow sensor tells you the actual air mass, hence the name.

No, that is speed density that is a guess. Which is why people "tune it" to get it right. Speed density is a very good guess, don't misunderstand.

Hey guys,

I am looking at purchasing a MAP ECU 2 locally. It comes with 2 harnesses, laptop cable, CD, and IAT sensor. Is this all I need to eliminate the AFM and tune?
