I just spoke to my machinist, he said that I'll get my motor on Monday. :icon_bigg This makes me very happy.

Anyway, he said that he can't deck the block with the front plate on because his machine requires that it the block rests on the crank journels. He took .007's off of the block, but for some reason (I didn't understand his explaination), he can't machine the front cover by itself, either.

I shoulf be able to file it down by hand, correct? I hate to think of the alternative solutions.

Try another machinist...same situation as yours; my machinist was able to do the front plate. I know a couple of guys that just took a belt sander to it. It has nothing to do with the head gasket seating properly, so whatever. You DO want to use Toyota FIPG or copper RTV across the top of it to prevent oil leaks tho.

Sounds like your machinist is a dumbass.

Just make sure you cut the cover down at least as much as the block, or your head gasket won't seal. :(

Well, he sure can't schedule his time properly. I'm begining to wonder if I'll ever get my car put back together. :nono:

He just sounds lazy is all!

7 thou you could probably "Draw File" it Mark.

Nice sharp file used across the surface so you would hold each end either side of the cover some WD40 or CRC then pull the file along the Cover.

Done right it gives a nice flat smooth finish.

I did basically did what IJ is describing w/o lubricant though(due to me forgetting to drop the cover of to the machine shop with the block, then by the time I got there the deck had been machined) . I used a straight edge and feeler guages with the cover attached to the block to check it. I turned out pretty well, abeit not as nice a machined surface, of course.
