So I have a 90 supra turbo. I just changed my diff fluid to royal purple and now the lsd does not work. Is there a different fluid that is not so slick that would work bette with my lsd. Thanks everyone

I think I've got 80-90 in there now. I use what the owner's manual recommends. Pretty sure it's 80-90.

The type of fluid just needs to be for LSD's. They use different oil. You can use regular oil, but make sure to use a friction modifier with it so your LSD will work. ;)

There's a reason all LSD's have a big sticker that says "LSD OIL".

Until I switched to a Cusco rear diff, I always used Ford oil, based on this note from Reg Reimer:

Using 75/90-wt LSD differential carrier oil from Ford motor company makes Supra differentials run quieter and smoother than any other oils tested.

The Ford oil comes in two parts now, the oil itself and a small container of friction modifier that you add. It's cheap, easy to source, and works extremely well.

I just used Napa gear oil and their LSD additive. The diff isn't noisy, and usually will spin both tires. I only ever had trouble when it was cold outside, it liked to spin one. And when I first put the diff in, but thats irrelevant. I'm sure thats from sitting for 3 years.

Ya mine worked pretty good when i first got the car. It had the original fkuid in it still. Which was disgusting. I put the expensive royal purple stuff in which has the lsd additive in it. And since then it only spins one wheel.

Regular valvoline with no friction modifier. The fluid itself was API GL-5 approved, so I ran with it. Both wheels spin while performing a burnout. Before I swithed to valvoline I was doing the one wheel peel.

Yep, the Ford oil/friction modifier does work very well in the Supra LSD. RP oil tends to be "too slick", especially in a high mileage LSD. Redline 75/90 is good, but I only recommend it for new or rebuilt LSDs - it can cause chatter on a LSD with a lot of miles.

It's from Ford itself. Motorcraft is Ford's brand, so I am not sure if it says that on the bottle.

You can walk into any Ford dealer and pick it up. Previous owner of my car added some Ford LSD additve when they changed the gear oil for the diff.

It does say Motorcraft on it. Funny thing, though, whenever I went to get some from the Ford dealer, they would ask me what vehicle it's for. I'd tell them it wouldn't help, they argue, so I give in and tell them it's for a Toyota Supra. The look of outright shock on their face is predictably awesome.

So I explain how much I need, and that I really don't know or care what car to punch into their computer, and eventually they figure it out.

I had two Supras that were around 135-140,000 miles on each of them and I ran Redline throughout both cars with no issues. But someone did say that with a high mileage Supra, Redline caused a chatter and the Ford oil did not.
At 160,000 I would probably go with the Ford stuff.
