Ok, when doing the brakes i noticed i could move the knuckle up and down... lower ball joints on both sides are shot. Q is, should I do the upper and lower? how hard is it to do this job? any advice before I go buy the parts? where Should I buy the ball joints at? I"m thinking napa or dealership.

lowers are an easy repair, uppers are much harder to install and they are less likely to be bad? imo
uppers don't seem bad, and the parts places don't seem to list them (uppers) at all! they carry the lowers for $68 at napa, but i can get them online from a toyota dealer for a lot cheap. $56. So I'm gonna end up ordering them from toyota maybe next month.

ya there is a lot more load on the lowers, so they wear out first, uppers need to be pressed in and out i think, but im not positive..
Uppers are non replacable as far as I know you have to go genuine and buy the complete A Arm as they're one piece.
Joel is correct though there are minimal loads on the uppers so they don't really wear out.

lol yea never had a problem with any balljoints or suspention components of our cars... thank god... balljoints arnt always the most fun thing...

They're easy as long as the bolts don't strip then you're in for some trouble, I've done upper and lower on mine and it wasn't too hard. Then we did my friend's car and the bolts holding on the ball joints stripped while we were pulling it off so we had to replace the whole arm. Which still wasn't all that bad
Justanothervictim- Did you have to buy the whole upper A arm when you did the uppers? or just buy the upper ball joint from to yota?
the lower ball joint you can buy from your local parts store,the upper is a complete unit.costing AUD$380+ea.You can buy JIC upper arms with camber adjustment for less i believe.
