im not that much of a dumb ass... i will try to find a gauge but if this gauge is accurate should i not drive it until i figure out what it is?TomFraser;1520122 said:That is very low...
Start with checking the oil level.

And dont drive untill you know what it it for sure.

As stated - depends on gauge accuracy. A direct mechanical gauge hooked up at the stock location will tell the tale.
You know, the TSRM is a wonderful thing - Might want to start using it:

I would be more concerned with pressure at 3000 RPM. As a rule of thumb, you should also get ~10 psi increase in pressure per 1000 RPM. Pressures over 40 psi are limited (hot) by the cooler relief valve and oil squirter's...in fact, a stuck open cooler relief valve will show exactly as yours does at hot idle. Oil viscosity will have an impact - What brand/grade are you using? And, did you break-in the engine?

Is that Pennzoil Platinum?

you want something like at the bottom of that page. it looks like a compression tester but for oil.

You can rent the tester usually from kragen or something and find out what your oil pressure is. Maybe its the gauge, bearing clearances, relief valve. properly diagnosing thing and throwing parts are 2 different things. Its always good to get a nice accurate oil pressure gauge but that is not one of those.

CyFi6;1520717 said:No you dont have to drain the oil. Make sure you have a 1/8NPT to 1/8BSPT thread adapter if your gauge is 1/8NPT like most of them are. Sometimes you can get the NPT to thread in, but i was not able to get a gauge into my block until i got the adapter.
