i was just wondering if these were normal oil pressures for an engine with 1000 miles on it? some how i don't think so... one is at hot idle and one is at 3000 rpm hot. im sure you know witch is witch.

Yes, quite normal for the 7M to have low oil pressure as it uses a high volume, low pressure system.
A search would have turned up plenty of results, but the search police don't live here ;)

At idle it should be no lower than 4.3psi, and at 3,000rpm you look to be below spec, which is 36-71psi, but the stock gauges are only a reference and aren't exactly "accurate".

I'd suggest putting a real oil pressure gauge on it and finding out for sure.
HERE IS THE LINK to the tsrm engine lubrication section.

I would use a oil pressure gauge to know exactly what it is. Stock gauges can give you false readings sometimes.

im not that much of a dumb ass... i will try to find a gauge but if this gauge is accurate should i not drive it until i figure out what it is?

Get real oil pressure tester gauge. You can rent them at kragen i believe. You unscrew the oil pressure sensor on the block and fit the gauge to there and then get the readings.

And dont drive untill you know what it it for sure.

OK i will do that asap. i am gonna be unhappy if it has anything to do with engine internals since i just payed 3000 for an rebuild and im already a little unhappy with the turnout.

Start with checking the oil level.

As stated - depends on gauge accuracy. A direct mechanical gauge hooked up at the stock location will tell the tale.

You know, the TSRM is a wonderful thing - Might want to start using it:

I would be more concerned with pressure at 3000 RPM. As a rule of thumb, you should also get ~10 psi increase in pressure per 1000 RPM. Pressures over 40 psi are limited (hot) by the cooler relief valve and oil squirter's...in fact, a stuck open cooler relief valve will show exactly as yours does at hot idle. Oil viscosity will have an impact - What brand/grade are you using? And, did you break-in the engine?

i literally loled at your first comment. i am using Pennzoil 5w-30 (i think that's the grade?). I did the hard break in i read about on this site with the high vacuum pulls and oil changes every 12 feet. I will try to see what i can do about the relief valve. would you recommend i get a new one?

Check with a mechanical gauge to eliminate your stock gauge's resolution as a factor. Check at idle and 3000 RPM per the TSRM. Compare against the stock gauge readings.

Is that Pennzoil Platinum?

i have no idea i don't think so, i threw the jug away already all i know is that it was big and yellow and 5w-30. I guess I'll begin my search for a pressure gauge tomorrow.

edit: not platinum

another edit: thanks for all the help jdub and others. will this work? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...e-Gauge-Actron_9030005-P_N3342C_P|GRP2032____

thats an aftermarket gauge.

http://matcotools.com/Catalog/toolcatalog.jsp?cattype=T&cat=2125&page=15

you want something like at the bottom of that page. it looks like a compression tester but for oil.

One is a tester and can be used on all cars and the other is just a very cheap gauge(also can be used on all cars) and at 18$ i would not trust.

You can rent the tester usually from kragen or something and find out what your oil pressure is. Maybe its the gauge, bearing clearances, relief valve. properly diagnosing thing and throwing parts are 2 different things. Its always good to get a nice accurate oil pressure gauge but that is not one of those.

ooh ok that was just the first one i found and it looked like it would work. I don't know what a kragens is but i think auto zone rents tools so ill take a ride over there. thanks for the help.

seriously?

use the stocker for trends, mine read similar to yours when i finally pulled it out. Actual psi was in the 50's though..

No you dont have to drain the oil. Make sure you have a 1/8NPT to 1/8BSPT thread adapter if your gauge is 1/8NPT like most of them are. Sometimes you can get the NPT to thread in, but i was not able to get a gauge into my block until i got the adapter.

OK thanks good! could i get an adapter at like home depot or something?

edit: more of make an adapter out of fittings?
