Low oil pressure or faulty gauge?

My oil pressure was reading normal less than a week ago. Over 20 (less than 40) on cold start up, then 4-6 on warm idle and ~36 cruising.

Now upon cold start up, it reads ~6. When warmed up, the idling pressure is normal but when cruising it'll barely go over the 20 mark.

What could be the culprit?

Edit: I'm definately not low on oil, by the way.

check the oil. If anything the colder weather makes the oil thick so it would read more on startups and til its fully warmed up. 10/30 oil?

Maybe your oilpump has gone bad.
That would answer your question why your dip stick gives a good reading.

I wouldn't drive the car anymore until I got it figured out.

From my experience the gauge is always right.

If you havent lost any volume, then the clearances in the bearings have opened up too much.
