Low compression on #6

I did a search on the forum and found some info that will hopefully help me out, but i figure i would ask one question before the big job is started.

My wiring harness is not the way it was when the car came stock, I just want to be sure that the wiring harness would have nothing to do with my compression problem. not so much that it is the problem but that it may have been a part in causeing the problem.

Thanks
Kyle

How low is it?

FWIW, I drove for about 4 years on 147psi on 4 cyls, 120 on one, and 100 on the last. About the only thing that clued me in to a problem was not being able to cruise in vacuum on the highway. WOT power was still 430ish to the wheels so i couldn't tell it was low on power.

we just did the one test, and i did not know there were more than one kind. the wiring harness has been hacked and slashed, with alot of re-routed wires. Haven't traced them all yet, but it is a mess.

I am trying to remember what the numbers were.... I think that 5 of the 6 were at 150ish, and the 6th cylinder was below 100, it may have been as low as 60.

The car also has problems starting, and continuing to run, I can only seem to get up to 3-4000 rpm before it dies. not sure if that is something entirely different. This is a project car, so the amount of work isn't the problem, it is the doing unnecassary work, cause time is hard to get when you got a 3 month old kid.

thanks
Kyle

What do you mean you couldn't cruise? Would the car buck?

As for the original question... Low compression could mean:

1. BHG
2. Worn rings
3. Leaky valves
4. Cracked head/block
5. Cracked/melted piston(s)

Is that right^^? Someone correct me if i am wrong.

im thinking it sounds like leaky valves, you could have a chip in the valve, bent valve, or it just isnt seating itself right. does your car idle rough? if it does, then that is my guess. also with how your car has trouble starting, i didnt quite plug the afm all the way in after working on it, and my car would stutter and turn off by around 2-3000 rpm.

It would drive just fine with no signs of problems. the only way you could tell a problem is to konw that when cruising on the highway at 80mph, you shouldn't see the boost gauge's needle rise off it's rest. Unless you hit a big hill obviously. This eats more fuel, and mpg would suffer. I would still see 22ish mpg on the highway so it wasn't THAT bad.

Owning this car for 10 years.. I know when guages aren't looking correct. Or something doesn't feel right.
