i have noticed recently that my car is smoking alot. it deff smells like unburnt fuel. the only code i am throwing is a 24. its been on there for a loooong time and never made a difference before. i am not really sure what it could be. it backfires sometimes when i shift or when i coast down in a gear. my first thought was the 02 sensor. i am not really sure what to do right now. i am gonna be tearing it down soon to rebuild and go maft pro with it so i dunno if its worth fixing now. any input?

I think code 24 refers to the intake air temp sensor also known as the air flow meter.

Try to measure the resistance between the terminals THA and E2, like the manual says and see what yours says...

For what it's worth, I just replaced my O2 sensor a few days ago because it was running like crap and my idle was off a bit. I checked codes but there were none present. I could see that my air/fuel meter "light show" would stop working after it was warmed up..

I know people say that the air/fuel gauges are worthless, but once again it saved me a load of trouble shooting.... I replaced the O2, and it works sweet now.. (I think you can test it on and off the car, I am just lazy)

i will check it tomorrow. the codes been on there ever since i got the car and it never made a difference. so i cant see that being the problem. i will check it out though...

I would pull your EFI fuse and clear your codes. See if it shows up again..

It almost sounds to me like you may have a boost/vacuum leak somewhere? I would look at all your couplers, hoses and pipes for cracks and or leaks.. Here is a homebuilt "how to" leak tester link..

Also, what are you running with, a stock bypass valve or an aftermarket BOV?

Is it vented to the atmosphere or routed back into the accordian hose like stock? If it's vented to the atmosphere, I hear that can cause some back fires between shifts because the AFM misses that extra air and tries to compensate..(this is just what I have read and it may not be accurate)
