Lost a fan...

Today while driving to lunch I hit a bump pretty hard, after which it sounded like my car was humming a one note song. It looks like both of the upper fan shroud mounting holes are partially broken now but it is still held on, and I narrowed the horrible vibration down to the lower AC fan. To kill the pain I just unplugged that one, everything else is fine and quiet.

Is this an urgent fix? I'm pissed that it broke but I've got more important things to work on at the moment, how bad can only one AC fan be for the car? It's raining all the time now and cold so I hope it wouldn't overheat like this.

Funny I did the same thing except when it came off I ran it over

are you using the a/c at all right now? if not,i don't see how it would affect your temp. it of course only comes on when your coolant reaches a certain temp

One of those is for the AC, the other is for your oil cooler, in theory.

at the time i had AC on for defrosting, maybe i will just cut back on that

heh, i dont even have an A/C/ oil cooler fan... (formerly N/A) and the fan was seized, and i dont have A/C at all, so there was no point in having a seized fan in there. i've never had overheating issues due to lack of that fan.

Those little fans ONLY come on when the 'highside' pressure of the lines gets above like 250psi . Mine don't even come on when its cool out and I'm on the hiway, or in winter when I'm defrosting. You can run without one in the summer, if your a/c is blowing cold (45*) out the vents.:icon_razz

Yeah it doesn't do much but I've heard that in warm climates your air wont blow as cold without it.
I've got dual electrics wired to thermo switches...way better! You might want to think about going that route.
