i am about to own a n/a mk3 supra and of course, wanting to go turbo. I did alot of research and decided that jus swapping in the 7mgte would be the safest way to go but i am a colllege student and work everyday i have off so if i was to do the swap myself it would take at least a month to finish because of my busy schedule. Im located in queens, Ny and wanted to know if anyone knows of a shop that will perform the swap or a person that is looking to make some extra cash on the side that has done the swap before. I can provide the 7mgte and all of the parts. If anyone knows of a shop located in Nyc please post and if anyone that wants to do it themselves on the side please pm me how much you would charge. Thank you all, i would love to do it myslef and learn and save me some money but i just dont have the time. Thank you all

insurance rates I doubt are different. I would be EXTREMELY Supprized if they are. Hell there is no difference on insurance from a mkiv to IS300 to mkiii with my company.

He is a poor college student that is going to buy a car (i'm sure not cheap) and buy a $1k engine + $500 in extra parts to swap into his car, and then pay someone on top of it. Just buy a turbo car and save the work, hassle and probably money.

Looks like chris is living his avartar quote

It was just an opinion of his he made. Shouldn't have gotten bent out of shape. But I have to agree that IJ has done a great deal for the community and he puts the tsrm to shame! lol

But yes you can do the swap but if you arent really into pulling the motor and what not just use the gte turbo stuff read up on mkIIItech.com and do it man. Plenty of people have went na-t instead of a full blown na-7mgte swap.

NA supra = 2 grand for a "ok" condition one
Turbo engine = 1 grand + 600-800 for R154
Labor - A grand AT LEAST
Misc part- 300-500 bucks

There, youve got yourself a large headache, emtpy wallet, and weeks of waiting for shipping and labor

Good condition turob supra - 4000$

TEH END.

Why do you want to swap to a turbo right away before you even have the car? You say you're in college? Must have deep pockets. Anything wrong with the NA?

Well glad to see this post has help out Queenskid so much out of 17 post two actually refer to his question.

You didn't mention the other things you will need to address. I own a n/a swapped turbo and it hasn't scene more then three months of road in two years. You are going to need to up grade the fuel pump . the stock W58 clutch wont last long . Your going to need a down pipe and exhaust . A coolant system flush and possiable upgrade my old n/a rad blew a seam causing a BHG. The N/A tach wont work so you have to think of something their. Long story short me and my wife make a sheet load of money and my supra is on jackstands again. Just save up some more money and get a good turbo supra unless you have a bike to ride around when your supra breaks down . Check out the F/S section here their are a few really good cars for sale . whit the money you would need to spend on the Car,Engine , And all the assc. parts you can get a good one and just bus your self to it. Good Luck which ever way you go .

Matt

Queens- Is this going to be your only car or do you have a daily driver? I say do it on your own or if you have a buddy to help. It will save money, you will learn a lot of stuff from doing it hands on, and you can stand back and look at it when you are done and have an ear to ear grin. Just work on it when you have time. "Do not rush it, it isn't a race" (great IJ quote). Good luck man and PM me if you have any questions. I'm not to familiar with the 7M (I went 1jz from the start), but I do have mechanical skillz. Not to keen on electrical though. Good luck man.

I come from a land down under
Queens: All jokes aside take my first post in this thread to heart if you swap a GTE into an GE car make sure you update your insurance information as they WILL void your policy if you wreck.
(My car is a converted NA)

Chris DO NOT post again unless you have something helpful to add

He never said money was an issue, but I would think many turbo mk3's need saving also, not just NA's. I like the sell NA, buy a turbo car also. Someday there will be no more NA's and it would be a shame.

wow this generated alot of response and one or two arguments. im gettin the n/a for cheap, my cousin is going to give it 2 me for dirt cheap because i got good grades, and he is the only owner and has a ton of mods to it already. I was going to go 1/2 na-t with na or gte electronics but it seems for the same price or a few hundred more i can just have the gte in there. An insurance on a turbo car is much more than an n/a with my company. so in the long run it would be cheaper for me to hav an n/a on the insurance and a turbo engine inside. just like how i did with my four cyclinder fox mustang and put a 5.0 in there. Well one person said that the labor would be a grand so thats was really the answer i was lookin for. I might jus do it myself, but thank you all for the response and the help.
