looking for ppl who have personally rebuilt their cps

After you went through the drill bits on the dowel on the gear, and you are peening it out, if you try and rotate the rod assembly does it now hit the g1 and g2 pickups and not turn completely?

I'm not sure if i bent it or not because I can't tell with my eye but this happened with both of cps's today.

On the second one I tried to avoid this, so I drilled a 2mm hole ALL the way through, drilled both sides of the gear, hit it with a blowtorch and tapped lighter and the dowel would not even budge and then i noticed the same thing as before. The rotating assy now does not rotate freely and hits the pickups.

I drill a pilot hole through the pin then use a 6mm bit to drill the head off on each side and use a pin punch to punch out what's left of the pin making sure I support the gear on a block of wood, I WOULDN'T use heat anywhere near it.

You supported the gear and splined housing on a piece of wood?

I clamped down both of these parts in vice with 2 pieces of wood on each side, do you think this could cause the rod to bend?

6mm? You didn't eat into the gear?

Yep I just clamp a block of wood in the vice with a hole in it under the pin press against it with my body so my hands are free and knock the pin out, yes the 6mm cuts into the gear a little just don't go mental as the new pin gets peened over into the hole anyway.

Do you think a machine shop can straighten any slight bend in the rod rather than buy a whole nother bloody cps?

Looks like it shifted .50mm ish from the original clearance above the pickup housings.(hitting the housings)

Pull the shaft and spin it up in a drill and see how much runout it has.

Here is the one I didn't quite finish but what I just realized is by whacking at the dowel the pickups moved up/down causing the reluctor to hit them I pushed them all the way down and then shot this. I think this dowel is still okay?

The sum of three numbers is 98. The ratio of the first to the second is 2/3 and the ratio of the second to the third is 5/8. What is the second number?

It was 30! not 48 or w/e you said, Not bad for someone with 103 IQ, especially when they get to learn someone with a 145!

We could let the first two numbers be 2x and 3x, but then since the ratio of the second to the third is 5/8 it would be nice if the second one had 5 as a factor; so let the first two be 10x and 15x.
Then since the second is 5*3x, the third must be 8*3x, i.e. 24x
Now use the fact that their sum is 98:
10x + 15x + 24x = 98
49x = 98
x = 2
Hence second number = 15*2 = 30

How bout them apples!?

Thanks for the help IJ, I measured each rod with a metal ruler and each checks out basically perfect, I though they bent because the pikcups moved around while smashing the dowel out, also my drill is what is lop sided in the vid.

so all is well.

Easist way to check runout is spin it slowly in the drill, hold a pencil near it as it turns and move it as close to the shaft as you can without it touching, watch the gap as it turns. (this is assuming you don't have a dial indicator handy)

Oh didn't think of that. My drill is a little lopsided it looks, because the botom rotating part moves just as much as the shaft does. When I hold the rod long ends together and turn they are perf stright also with a metal ruler so I think they are good to use to rebuild
