Ok, so as i posted a while back, at the track, my friends were noticing that I had been doing peg legs in the pit... But not ALL the time, just now and then I guess...

Anyway, Bobby came over to help me do my rotors and replace the rear studs on one of my wheels, cuz one was broken, so I had all five replaced... *JAKE SMART, ERGH! :nono: * Anyway, while wrenchin one in, the wheel started turning, so yeah, LSD is bad... *one wheel turned forward, the other wheel turned backward, lol*

LUCKILY my good friend Bob had a spare 393 just layin around, cuz he's good like that, garage full of Supra stuff...

BOBBY:
Even if I didnt have a Supra, I think I would just keep all these parts layin around, I like them! :aigo:
I'm paraphrasing, of course, lol...

Anyway, whats the options for high torque LSDs? Where can I get them? The LSD I have now, that's broken, what are my options with it? Can I fix it? Replace the gears in it? Build it up?

Thanks,
Jake

You can replace the clutches, all of them should run about $250 from our local discount toyota dealers. It will be good as new, and also you can shim it a little to get a higher preload.

Yep. New clutches and shim it nice and tight.

if one wheel turns one way and the other, the other way isn't that normal for a diff?

I though only under load it locks up.

A good mk3 LSD will turn both wheels the same direction (torsen excluded).

ATS, Cusco, TRD, and Kaaz make replacement LSD's starting around $850 and going up to ~$1300-$1400...

yes, both wheels should turn the same way with the rear end jacked up....If yours turns opposite, you have a bad lsd, or don't have an lsd... If you have an N/A, without the sports package, you don't have an LSD

Always though it was toatsed now i know for sure...

Hrmm strange i always though that behavior was normal..

Is rebuliding a stock diff all that hard? (as i peer in to my TSRM)

I come from a land down under
I don't drag and have 285/35/18's so don't think I'll have either a problem or traction with my 4.1 Torsen :) !

I love how drivable it is as my 4.30 LSD made the car an understeering pig!

Jeff-I know you have a Kaaz LSD, but what sealed the deal on that for you? I'd like to know more about LSDs and Cusco, particularly, has my attention.

I went with the Kaaz because it was commonly used in the drifting circles and was a known entity. The price was also attractive (although I did not know about the TRD selectable at the time). I have the 2-way, which is the more aggressive of the two models. You will notice it at parkinglot speeds when turning -- the rear will lurch and clunk almost as bad as if you have a welded rear. I've ridden in a Kaaz 1.5-way car, and it was barely noticeable at parking lot speeds...

The Cusco MZ is likely to be comparable to to the Kaaz, but the RS would be a nice choice for a clutch-type road racer. It uses coil springs rather than cams to preload the clutch plates so it behaves consistently as the plates wear. Since you're in Japan, I would encourage you to look into purchasing it there. When I look at the List prices (converted to USD) for Cusco parts, we pay more than list as a retailer. I'm not sure whether there is a huge tax, or whether Cusco USA just likes to take advantage of the situation, but definitely check them out while you're there as it might save you a couple hundred :)

The ATS deftforce is going to be as aggressive as the Kaaz, but stronger. It's also more expensive... The ATS carbon is a very smooth clutch that holds plenty of power. It would be comparable to the Cusco RS, but should last longer. It's the most expensive and I haven't sold one for the MK3 yet.

I don't know a lot about the TRD other than it will behave like stock so once installed you wouldn't have the side effects of the Kaaz or Cusco MZ... My main question is about how well it will hold up (I would assume better than stock)
