well I plan to build a custom exhaust for my 87 turbo,
my goal is to have something that looks similar to the greddy DD exhaust.
for referance
I plan to later order a aftermarket down pipe but for now, I ( and my friend who can weld/owns a mig ) plan to go with a 2.5" or 3" pipe from right before the first converter down to the end of the second one w/ a straight pipe (test pipe, I guess ), and then have that connect to a magnaflow 3" 1 in 2 out muffler like this
and then go to my local muffler shop and buy 3-4 feet of 3" piping,
and I am going to order ( or if possible buy localy )
1 or 2 of these from ebay
and then buy 2 of something like these.
( those are 12" long, I might want longer ones..?.. )
and then I will need some ( say 5 to be safe ) hangers from local muffler shop.
and I will also buy some new rubber hangers
and I would like to keep this around the 200$ range, and hopefully have it look and sound as good as I want it to.
so my questions are these,
1:
I have never used a muffler like what I plan ( always fart cans, lol )
I have no idea what brand or style of muffler will suit me best
does anyone have any experiance with these styles?
I would like the exhaust to be a bit on the louder side, but nothing too crazy
( I am a former rotary guy, and on all 5 of my 7's have had straight open exhaust = louder than hell
so I am not sure what kinds of mufflers would be best.....
2:
how much 3" piping should I get ( from the test pipe, back )
I about a 1 foot from the test pipe to the muffler
( also I dunno where this muffler would fit best under the car )
and then from the muffler out I will need double the piping,
I am just guessing at 2 feet,
and then from there I will have the 2 tips exiting the back ,
( yes at a mega sicc jdm angLZ :icon_bigg )
3:
how many of those mandrel bends should I buy?
I would think ( again I have no idea, just guessing )
2 should do it b/c I plan to try and keep this exhaust as straight flowing as possible.
---
and I would like to have the two pipes from the muffler to be identical and maybe in 1 or 2 spots have a flat peice of metal ( or a peice of hanger )
welded in between the pipes to hold them together,
the other thought I have, is to not use any chrom tips at the end, and just have the 2, 3" pipes exit the back
( now that I picture it that might look alot better, lol )
and maybe going over the whole exhaust with a high heat flat black spray paint.
I am thinking this shouldn't be too tough to do, and IMHO would look pretty bad ass,
I appriciate ALL/ any kind of info or tips you guys could offer,
this is my first supra ( and I have only driven it 3 times, on the 3rd time I blew the Head gasket, lol, the car is at my friends shop getting fixed, and I hope to have it back by the end of december , lol, I didn't plan to drive it on the shitty nebraska snow/salt roads anyways ,)
but eventualy my goal with the car is around 280-300 rwhp, and I have also been going over the Idea of getting a cut out just before the muffler and routing it with a peice of pipe to after the muffle, to pretty much just by-pass it, anyways I think this exhaust should be sufficient.
well, sorry for being soo long winded and rambling, and again any help/tips is appriciated,
and just for fun this is what the DD looks like on a car
looks pretty much badfkn ass IMHO
( my second fav. is the buddy club spec II, essentialy the same idea with 1 exit instead of 2 )
ok I'm done LOL
