looking at buying this '86 AE86 corolla

Thought i might ask you guys about this. It's an 86 corolla GT-S, all bone stock except for a recently replaced engine that the owner has put about 15k miles on. There's some rust on the hatch below the glass, but he has a replacement hatch with good glass and no rust that comes with the car. other than that, the interior is worn but not too bad to me.

the biggest question is there's this spot where the rear right quarter panel is rusted through underneath the window. im trying to figure out about how much it would cost to have that spot repaired before i commit to buying the car.

There is a white one that is close to where I live at out in the country. Ive been thinking about stopping to see what their plans are with the car as it has just been sitting in the same place for who knows how long. Dont know much about them

best thing to do would be to get some quotes from a panel beater/body repair place... Depends on how bad it's rusted i guess... I could always ask the bf for an estimate and then convert into USD for you, but it all depends on the place you take it to...

actually lilmiss if you could let me know a rough amount, that would be great. i just wanna know if its like 100 or 1,000 (us) dollars of work to fix that rust spot.

ok, not a problem As i said though, it depends on WHERE you take it more than anything else... How big is the rust spot? You have measurements?

The AE86 is the best car ever made, it cannot be beat.

And the rust can be repaired with some bondo, and its alreay flat blacked, and you can shoot some right over the bondo. If its higher mileage you need to look at the condtion of the rear end, trans, rust underbody, ever been wrecked (frame damage).

trans feels fine, rear end is good but i dont know how good the differential is (not a problem to replace), the underbody looks good and clean (about as good as my supra, only dirty). frame seems to be straight as the car tracks straight and has clean title. never been wrecked, body is straight as far as i can see.

mileage is 210k on the chassis, and he said the replacement engine has had about 15k put on it since being in the car.

asking $2000 for it

i didnt take measurements but it looks to be 3-4 inches long and 1 inch wide (thats probably more, but a safe number). you can see it in the picture i attached on the top of the thread.

It can be fixed, and I'd probably expect it to cost about $300 to repair, without paint, since the whole car needs paint anyways.

PS: That's an 85 AE86, not an 86, not that it makes that much difference. It looks like it's in pretty nice condition overall, but could actually look pretty nice if it actually had paint on it. Haha.

I'd get it checked over by a shop though, they may catch something you missed in your excitement.

It's not a smoking deal or anything, I would maybe ask for a bit less, but it depends on the local market, for how many there are around and how much people want them.

Around here it would fetch $2000 easily I would think.

theres one in idaho in much better condition for 1,200 OBO (he'll tak e1k Cash)

Fly here and Drive it home...

it would be cheaper then 2k for plane ticket, gas, and car and the cars in better condition
